I have the same problem with my 1997 Volkswagen Polo Classic. The compression is 120 psi, there is current coming from the spark plugs, it's feeding fuel to the power module. But when set at ignition it can not start. My mechanic analyzed that it has a wrong timing of firing & could not produce combustion in the piston chamber. He tried to adjust but to know avail. Please, help me on how to adjust the timing correctly.

My 1997 Volkswagen Polo, the timing was set correctly. But still can not start. My mechanic observed that the air intake is low or lower than normal. Could this be the cause of the problem. If so, why low air intake and what are the possible causes and remedy. Thanks, for any solution you can provide.

Did you check the compression? If the compression is low then the most probable cause is the valves bent. Means the head has to come off.
If the compression is ok then have you got the HT leads on the right way or is the ignition timing ok. Check the resistance in the leads they have a tendancy to break down.

Check the coil controll modual locacted on top of the air cleaner. If its bad, the coils could be firing at the wrong time.

Morning Thave a VW polo 1600i 8V Can you please explain to me how to refit the timing belt but please explain all the maks and settings for I have not removed the belt Thanks Chris

Timing Belts are actually easy to change....... IF you take extra EXTRA care when replacing to have ALL the pointers lined up..... I am not sure about the VW... but I have done a few over the years.... Toyota mainly....... but if you have not done a Timing Belt before I strongly recommend you go to a Mechanic to have it done............. You just need to be ONE TOOTH out and it is a new engine.......

I have 1998 vw golf timing belt broke put a belt on it and check timing and it is in time but will not start could val be bent

Most likely the valves are bent, VW engines are interference engines. Send the head to a reputable engine shop and have it thoroughly checked over. Make sure you replace the head bolts, they are not reusable.

Timing belt broken on 1.4 vw polo

Theres a good chance that motor is ruined if the belt broke.. I'll have to do some research and see if its an interference engine. if so.. Ya probably gonna need some extensive cyl head work.. I'll get back to ya
