2003 Lesabre Custom downshift problem from 2/1

This 2 owner Buick had several erratic shifting issues after I took ownership at 18,500 miles. Now has 22,500 miles. After servicing the filter and fluid, installing Dexron VI, Synthetic, and installing a shift kit, the only remaining issue is a slow downshift occasionally from second into first, which occurs mostly at a rolling stop. It appears GM engineers have designed the transaxle so the end cover will not come off unless you remove the transaxle to get to the electronics. What an engineering wonder. No wonder GM is in trouble.

Thanks for the suggestion, however, the engine and transaxle must be removed to access the shift solenoids, inside the tranny.

There is a switch on the trans that goes to your computer to let it know what gear you are in. It can go bad and cause these probs. You may have to replace it.

I got emissions and tires balanced and now my speedometer is climbing up as im driving telling me that im going alot faster than i am on a 2004 buick lesabre custom

The Buick LaSabre custom is a 3800, I think. Your speedometor may very well be correct! Take it out on the highway and time yourself between mile markers. Those cars are very fast; if you got a good tire balance you may be going faster than it feels since the car is smoother riding now.

Removing water pump from my 1996 buick 3800

Hello fellow Buick LeSabre owner. A few year's ago I replaced the water pump on my 1994 LeSabre and I too encountered a few obsticals. After I figured out how to address these problems I was thjen able to install my new water pump. To assit other LeSabre owners, I posted the actual process on the web. See the attached link for my solution ("Deano/Illinois") and several other comments from other Buick LeSabre owners. The entire process will take you about three hours. Good Luck!

2003 BUICK REGAL TRANSMISSION PROBLEM.

This is a common problem on some GM cars. There is a pressure control valve in the side cover of the transmission that needs to be replaced. The transmission does not have to be rebuilt. You will need to get a side cover gasket also.
