Question about Oldsmobile Omega

1 Answer

No drive When in Park the car goes nowhere even on an incline (no surprise I know, but I mean it is the same as applying the handbrake). However yesterday if I slowed down, say at a roundabout, the gearbox feels as if it has selected N itself and after a second or two suddenly kicks in. Now today when I put it in 3, 2 or 1 it doesn't go anywhere ie. gear not selected. D stopped working a while ago because of VERY slow accelleration.

Auto is in drive but still has forward motion with engine off

Are you on a hill? vehicle will roll if your handbrake is not applied. Peaple often make the mistake of thinking their transmission in "PARK" will hold their vehicle on a hill. PLEASE people do not rely on this, use your handbrake!!!!! The park pin inside your transmission is very small and is not designed to hold your car, this is what a handbrake is for.

My S type, 2002 2.5 l is stuck in Park. Believe it could be a faulty switch by the brake pedal or a problem with the J gate. Can someone help??

The s-types have a lot of issues sticking in park when the car is parked on an incline, sometime you can rock the vehicle and release it from park.
They had many issues with the J-gate assemblys and also the shifter cables. If the caris on an incline and you are able to remove it from park then in future you can apply the handbrake before putting the vehicle in park and that will take care of the issue rather than spending tons of money with the stealer. Do not force the shifter as there is a plastic piece which is part of the j-gate that will break and you will then need to purchase a j-gate assembly

I can't get my Gear Shift our of Park. The engine

Common problem.

In future, when on put it in park only AFTER the handbrake is applied. Ideally, foot brake, shift to N, apply handbrake, release foot brake, shift to park.

If the incline isn't steep have someone push car uphill while you gently move gearshift shift out of park. If its a steep hill, call a tow truck and move to a level surface. The parking pawl in the transmission becomes groved over time (and sticks) unless you use the handbreak as described.

My jagaur 2006 2.7cc is indicated that parkbrake foult and cannot put it on drive

Park brake fault - Normally caused by low battery voltage. Try a reset.
Make sure you have your radio code !
Disconnect negative on battery - leave for 15 minutes then reconnect.
Apply foot brake then apply handbrake switch.
If this does not work you may have a park brake module/pump issue - that means main dealer fault reading visit
Hope this helps
- good luck.

Jaguar s-type 2000 (Australia), Car locks when put in "park". Can only get it into car by rocking front of car up and down. Does anyone have any ideas. Has been intermittent but now becoming more common,...

ALWAYS engage Parking Brake BEFORE putting vehicle into "Park". Reverse the process when you want to get out of "Park" (hold down brake pedal, put car into desired gear, THEN disengage Parking Brake). Good luck!

Sticks in park

Hi Gerry

This is a common issue with the Jaguar S-type.

If you are parked on an incline the vehicle can get stuck in park.

You will need to rock the car back and forth while someone disengages park, so when you park on any type of incline, apply the handbrake first, before you select park.

Hope I have been of help.

Good Luck !
