Question about 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

1 Answer

99 tahoe with remote start no start problem.

The remote start is an after market unit.
The tahoe did work fine for the last 5 years with this remote.
Now it will only start with a brand new battery fully charged.
Otherwise when you turn the key it only clicks.
Battery voltage is good. Interior lights come on bright.
But even with a brand new battery after one day it will no longer start.
Just clicks when you try to start it..
The clicking of the solenoid is solid.
The starter has a new solenoid also.
There is some normal battery drain for the clock etc.
But otherwise nothing out of the ordinary.
I do not think the battery drain is excessive because;
I can take the battery out of the tahoe and use it to start my
96 K Blazer but in the Tahoe no joy.
I think the problem is in the remote starter.
Somehow it is not allowing full battery voltage to get to the starter.
By the way this problem only occurs when the temp drops below 32F.

I used to have problems like this with dirty bat terminals in older cars.
But in the tahoe this did not help. I must have a bad/dirty connection
somewhere else that only acts up when cold. Somewhere in the remote start system is my guess. Can I bypass this system somehow without removing it?

Sounds like you may have a cable issue. You should have two positive cables one supplying power to starter and one powering vehicle. if the starter power wire is not getting good connection but other is then it will only click. check this wire for corrosion inside cable

Remote door locks, remote trunk open button works.... Remote start DOES NOT work..... Could this be a fuse? What else might cause this failure?

Could be. There are inline fuses for the after market remote start under the dash. If the fuses are good, Remove the remote start system. It is dieing, Soon you won't be able to start the car with the key. Good systems last 5 to 7 years. Cheap systems might last 2 years. I have never put one in, but have removed several hundred.

Can a HVAC module cause your alarm remote to not be able to unlock ur car but it can set it. And can it all so cause it not to start. In a 2013 Chevy captiva

No. Unless they patched into to it to supply power for the remote. Doubt that though. After market alarms and remote start, should just go away. I have tore out hundreds of them because the don't last long. Even the factory uses aftermarket and they only last 5 to 7 years. Junk/cheap ones, lucky to get 2 years from them.

Anti thief light not blinking. Car wont start. key fob red light will flash but car wont turn on

If it doesn't start with the key either. Remove the aftermarket alarm/remote start system. Some thing you might check first is the neutral safety switch. On the transmission close to the shifter cable. Any way. after market alarms don't last that long. Even the best on the market seem to only last about 6 to 7 years. Cheap ones are lucky to last up to 2 years. Once the start going out, they can cause all sorts of different problem.

After the alarm has been set for hours, the alarm/horn beeps. No one is near the car when this happens.

After market? A good one last about 5 years. Factory maybe 7 years (even factory installs are after market). Junk ones, 1 to 3 years. Pull it out and repair the wires as you go. Every car I see these in, I pull them out. The car works fine after that.

02 ram 1500 remote starter lights flash 3 times but wont start

Factory or after market? how old is it? Factory will be OK, it will start with the key. Aftermarket? tear it out of the truck. Eventually it will not let the truck start. Repair wires as you tear it out. Even the high dollar aftermarket remotes only last about 5 years. I take them out all the time to get cars running again.

My remote start makes me do the lock - start process twice to start. Do you have any idea why?

Most after market remote starts last 5 years at best, if you have a good one. I suggest you have it removed and go start your car. It's acting up now. Soon it will kill the car and it won't even start with the key.

I have a 2007 tahoe and it keeps coding off & on / throttle position and i tested the plugin im getting 5 volts on 3 of the ports also the remote start deosn't work when the engine light comes

The 5 volt reference comes from the computer which is normal. The sensor could have a dead spot just off idle, or a problem with the wiring harness back to the computer.
I can't advise on the remote start issue.
