Experiencing extended cranking time before engine starts. not all the time but usually two to three attempts before it starts.at times i drive a mile or two, park about 10 minutes it wont start..have to wait a few minutes and try again. sometimes starts on 2 or 3rd time. other times i drive 20 miles, park and return to vehicle try starting it won't turn on ..it struggles to turn on. told dealer about it could not find anything. returned again. they cleaned the throttle body?is this correct??Normal???
I have had the same problem and have traced it down to the fuel pump relay. This vehicle belonged to a friend of mine and he got tired of taking it to the shop so I went to look at it. I have found out that the contact on the relays are corroded and sometimes cause the relay not to work. a simple check is to swap the ac relay with the fuel pump relay if the vehicle starts it is recommended to replace the relay and coat the contacts with dielectric grease to prevent the contacts from corroding.

Every 4 cycle gasoline auto engine needs three things: air, fuel and a source of ignition. If it cranks then the starter motor circuit and motor look to be OK. To check for ignition pull a plug wire and short it to the block with a phillips-head screw driver in the plug socket (leave a little air gap between the screwdriver and the point on the block. Be careful the output voltage from the coils can run as high as 40,000 volts and give you quite a jolt if you're not careful. If you get a regular spark from the screwdriver to the point on the block, it is likely that your ignition system is OK. If not then start trouble shooting there.
If ignition checks out OK then look for fuel starvation. Since it is a fuel injected motor there can be several places in the fuel delivery system to be checked. The first thing I'd do it crank it (no more than 30 seconds at a time unless you like replacing starter motors!) After three or four cycles of this with a non-start, pull a spark plug and insepct it by nose and fingers. If the plug smells strongly of gasoline and appears to be wet then fuel delivery is likely OK, check ignition.
I am not going into too much detail on checking the fuel system as that requires knowledge that I think an experienced mechanic needs to apply to the problem. Good luck! P.S. (Hint)The public libraries usually have "How-to" books on most automotive models in their collections.
You may not believe what I am going to say, but pumping the gas pedal does nothing to make the engine start. The throttle position sensor does not start sending a signal to the computer until after the engine starts. However, cranking the engine for an extended period of time could have an effect. If the fuel pressure is low, cranking the engine would build it back up to normal. I would suggest you have the fuel pressure checked before and after the first attempt of the day. The car would need to sit overnight for the first test.

Inspect the 16-way engine harness to fuel injector harness connector, the CMP sensor connector, and the ECM connector for corrosion.With a DTC set, the engine may crank for an extended period of time at start-up.
This is normal (for a cheaply made Chinese engine). Try pressing the accelerator to the floor once or twice, let off and then start the engine. Be more concerned about the Lower Intake Manifold and Head Gaskets. My 2005 Equinox just blew one or the other yesterday at 109,000 well maintained and always babied miles. The estimate to replace the head gaskets was "about $2000.00." Good luck!
I would check the fuel pressure regulator, it will have a small vacuum hose attached to it, take off that hose, if fuel comes out, replace it, that will be your problem. if no fuel comes out, then that may not be your problem. you will need the fuel pressure verified when you are having the long cranking problem.
What do you mean by trouble starting. Do you mean extended cranking time for the first start? If that is what you mean, than you may have a bad fuel pump check valve in the tank. The fuel in the fuel line drains back and requires an extended crank time to push the fuel back up to the injector rail for a start.
try this turn key on but don't crank count to five and do it once more now turn key off and then start if it starts right up by doing this the fuel pump is loosing it's prime it has a check valve in the pump that sticks
