Not starting even after battery was replaced...

I was leaving work and randomly my car didnt start. it has never done this before. all the electronic things were working, radio, windows, horn, etc. so i asked my coworker to give me a jump. we tried jumping it and still wasnt starting so we disconnected the cables and i tried starting it again and still nothing. only this time the only electronic things that were working was the dome light and the chime when the key was in the ignition. so i knew that i needed a new battery soon, so i replaced the battery. went to start it up and nothing. i tried different things like wiggling the battery cables, pulling on them and it is not even turning over. after many attempts trying to start it i started to hear a repeated clicking noise which seemed to me was by the starter. the most odd thing is, is when the key is in the ignition and the dome light is on and i push on the brake, all electronic things that are working turn off and then when i release the break they turn back on. im at a loss of ideas to try, can anyone help? thank you... kevin
by the way, i looked at every fuse and they all seemed fine, and i switched some relays around in the distributor box and still nothing.

I have a possible solution, but like I said, its just a thought. You need to get a computer diagnostics check done on it to see if the computer is shot. But thats what it sounds like. You can take it to a dealership and have it done, It costs about 65 to 120 dollars to do that. If its not the computer, they will tell you what is wrong with your car on the spot.

Please check all the cables that came out of the old battery. specially the one from the ground. look closely near the negative terminal if you have loose wires that has big eye terminals which would fit a battery cable bolt. you are loosing body ground to the chassis ans maybe to the engine as well.

i say this because the dash lights coming off when you press on the brake is a ground issue. they light up because they just got ground from the brake bulbs but when you press on the pedal, you supply 12 volts to the bulb , the ground disappear, the dash light would go off.

1990 Nissan D21 randomly just wont start.

before u replace the starter check the main wire from battery to starter. take it off the starter clean it with sandpaper and put it back on. sometimes this will solve the problem.

What are the signs that your battery could need replacing? thungs ive tried are boosting and leaving it running and that didnt work i took the positive post off after i started it and the car didnt die

Hello mr free pres, I think you are on the right trail. The alternator appears to be working properly because the engine keeps running while the battery is disconnected. Most auto parts stores will run a free test on your battery. If it is your battery make sure you replace it with one that has the same, or higher cold cranking amps. Otherwise some of the equipment may not work properly, and you will likely have some issues with the vehicle not wanting to start.
I believe you got this one right.
I hope I was helpful.

When trying to start my 1991 Plymouth Sundance America I hear only a clicking sound. I replaced the battery but it did not work. Can it be the alternator?

sounds like you have a bad starter.not your alternator.if the battery is good the car should start even if the alternator is can even drive the car until the battery runs low.the alternator job is to keep the battery charged.soulds like the solinoid is clicking.but no responce from the starter.have starter checked.

2003 ford mustang will not start all of a sudden. The only lights that work are the interior lights. It is a GT convertible, V-8. When I try to start, there is a dim noise of fluttering, but no attempt...

check the ground wire to the frame or the engine. the will look good but not getting a good ground. no matter what you do even jumping it wont work. i have had the same problem with a ford e150 replaced everything come to find out it didnt have a good ground.

I would check ignition items or fuel delivery if it just died on you. It wont be the battery unless it was dead and the alternator stop working.

Wont idle, turns off randomly

The ground between the engine and body/frame may be loose. The ground often looks like a woven peice of wire (Flat) and may be near the rear of the engine. check the connection and make sure ther is no corrosion betweeon the connections
