Question about 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

1 Answer

Service Brake system flashed three seperate times over 24 hours

I bought a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 Crew Cab with 70,000 miles about three weeks ago. Within the last two days the ABS, Parking light, and Service brake system light have flashed three times, at the same time, and several hours apart. I have checked the brake fluid level and the pads, and both are good. I recently had some new tires put on, and got new center caps for my after market rims at a rim and tire store. I noticed the Mechanic having trouble putting on the front right hand tire, because of lack of space. Could he have bumped some kind of sensor, or damaged somthing? I would appreciate some advice.

(1) I would suggest someone scan the ABS system for codes. I Have an '03 silverado 2500HD Crew cab, and it needs an EBCM (Electronic Brake Control Module) "ABS module". "Service Brake System" message on dash, ABS and Brake warning lamps lit as well. May be the R/F ABS wheel speed sensor, but what you described happen, shouldn't have caused damage to it.
(2) If the aftermarket rim and tire combo are larger than stock (larger overall diameter), then this may affect the way your PCM functions. You can reprogram the PCM to recognize larger diameter running gear so trans shift points and the speedometer and such can function properly.
I hope this helps.

2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Trip counter started resetting on its own. Tonight I noticed the odometer light was going on and off while the truck was turned off and sitting in the driveway; it flashes...

The button is stuck in or the switch is stuck in the closed position. Try pushing the button and or pulling it out. if that does not work the cluster will have to be taken out and repaired.

2005 silverado 5.3 dash problem. Volt gauge is erratic and the speedometer will drop to 0 Problem seems to be intermittent. Batt. Alt. and all connections check out fine.

those model chevys are notorious for that. if you have less than 70,000 miles on it they should warranty it. if not its about $500 to fix at dealer. if your realy handy you can order the stepping motors for the gauges and replace them yourself.

2004 Silverado crew cab has rattle around steering

If you feel this rattle while driving at low speed or turning at low speed it is likely a worn out steering shaft coupler, it is very common.

Bad speedometer

GM has a special coverage for the instrument cluster. 7 years, 70,000 miles or up to 80,000 miles you get the cluster and pay for the installation. Some dealers will install the cluster without charge anyway. They know the clusters are junk.

07187C this is the special coverage bulletin GM goes by.

The stepping motors in the gauges go bad. do a search on ebay for CHEVY SILVERADO INSTRUMENT CLUSTER for cheaper repair options. The dealer charges around $300.00. It will continue to worsen.

2004 Chev 1500 Suspension bounce/jiggle

There is a Service Bullitem out for that year (2wd) because the front frame cross member needs shims. I had it done to my crew cab 1500 a couple years ago, but the noise is back now :/
I'll look for the SB# a bit later. Good luck.... should still be covered, I think.
