Question about 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan
Our dodge caravan has 105k miles on it and we love it. I've changed the transmission fluid every couple years because we drive it pretty hard. The last couple weeks when it started getting cold it would not up-shift. It would stay in 2nd gear. I changed the transmission fluid which appeared to help for a while. We could get it shift again by stopping and restarting the engine. This seemed to work most of the time. I've replaced the transmission filter with a Mopar part and filled with ATF+4 transmission fluid as recommended. The OBD-II code reader shows a "P0605 Powertrain Control Module Read Only Memory (ROM) Error" and a "P0700 Transmission Control System (MIL Request)". I'm thinking the Powertrain Control Module may be bad. Is this the transmission control module or the main engine computer? The transmission control module is under the driver's front fender. It appears to be a little rusty. I cleaned the connections and put the harness back on. I also changed the battery since it appeared to be going bad. I also ran a ground wire from the battery to the transmission control module in case the ground was going bad. This did not appear to help much either. Do you have any ideas on what to try next? I'm looking for simple fixes without having to invest in a rebuilt transmission. I'm also a little worried if I take into a shop they will recommend rebuilding the transmission without trying the simple things. I appreciate any help.
I have a 2002 caravan, the fluid is good, good color and no burn smell. It goes only in first gear and won't shift up. Also it will not go in reverse.

I also was concerned about my tranny in my 1998 dodge caravan. I replaced the fluid & filter and it worked for a while. I finally had to bring it to AAMCO Transmission and they gave me a free evaluation of it & an estimate for the job. I had the option of ignoring their evaluation results and bring it home or just bite the bullet and have it repaired. I thought I could get a lot more miles out of it so I had it fixed for $1400 with no regrets.
Perhaps if you can find a similar place with free evaluation & estimate then that would be the thing to do as you seemed to have covered all the other bases.
