99 ford explorer door wont shut

Door wont shut. It's liked it's locked. Just happened all the sudden?

Sounds like the door latch has triped while the door was open.the door is held closed when the latch grabs around the u shaped bracket you can see when door is open.make sure door is unlocked then with a screwdriver or even a pen stick it in the door latch and slide the latch over to reset it.

We have a problem with the doors locking when you shut them. they wont unlock with the key and we think that te locks are broken. do you have a solution for this?


Its possible taht you have any linkage problem there; first check the FUSE, use this Ford-Explorer Owners Manual to know the specific location.

Rear door latch-Explorer

  1. Remove the door trim panel and watershield.
  2. Disconnect the rods from the handle and lock cylinder, and from the remote control assembly.
  3. Remove the latch assembly attaching screws and remove the latch from the door.
  4. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Door Lock Cylinder
  1. Open the window.
  2. Remove the trim panel and watershield.
  3. Disconnect the actuating rod from the lock control link clip.
  4. Slide the retainer away from the lock cylinder.
  5. Remove the cylinder from the door.
  6. Use a new gasket when installing to ensure a watertight fit.
  7. Lubricate the cylinder with suitable oil recommended for this application.

1991 ford door will not shut completely


Happened to mine...wrap a few layers of duct tape around it..It gives it the lift and cushion to re-align the door..works like it is brand new.smooth and quiet shut.

Door chime won't shut off. Door ajar won't shut off. Wipers turn on suddenly


check your door switch's. Sounds like one is stuck open. U can check them by depressing them manually.

no disrespect to you! do you wear large shoes? it is possible that your shoes are interfeering with your wire harness and causing this problem.if not I am here to help you.

those door latches have a spring that gets damaged they are junk. 99% you need a new latch. i replace all the time

I found a loose spring to my door lock 99' Ford Explorer.


76df6f5.jpgthis This is what you have to do.Go to the hardware store and get a spring just like in the pic maybe smaller. Put the bottom side just like in the pic and the top side of the spring on the door cilynder. And you are done.
