Engine on my 2004 Ford explorer just stopped running. i purchased this vehicle new and regularly had it serviced at 3,000 miles. It hacle only has 71,000 miles on it. After approximately a weeks time i...

First thing first, was there a noise in the engine area, that sounded like a rattling, or marbles rolling around in it? One of the timing chain guides might have broken, and the pistons will hit the valves and ruin them. Over time, (not millage) the timing guides will get bridle and crack/break causing this problem. We have owned 8 (1994, 1996, 1997, 2-1998, 1-1999, 2001, (presently has 211,000, 2003, 165,000 miles) Ford Explorers total, and 4 of them have over 300,000 miles, and sold one (1994) to a fire fighter with almost 800,000 miles on it,( with the complete maintenance records since new) and he gave it to his daughter, going to school, and she drove it another 100,000 last I heard,(2008). I also have bought and repaired/sold the newer "E" engine code, (8th digit in VIN number) because of this problem, so I have owned a few with the "timing chain/giude problems. You can opt to have the heads and timing chains and guides replaced, a used engine installed, or request a local shop to install a re-manufactured engine. $5-6,000 seems high, but depending on your area, might be a good price. If not, I might be interested in buying your vehicle, before you scrap it. avenger_craig@yahoo Put Explorer in Posting line title.

1998 ford explorer oil pressure

Knocking in engine and low oil pressure usually means bad main bearings. May have been caused by bad oil pump or just worn out bearings due to high mileage. If this is problem needs engine or rebuild old engine.
