Replace your fuel filter. Do not mess with the mixture if it is running fine at all other speeds.

Try turning up the gas in the carb. gas runs real lean when you get up to high speeds, and lower even more when it heats up, so it would make sense.

What would cause my 2000 ranger to buck between 45 and 50 mph going up hill

Yea! I'd like to see the answer to this also!
My Ford Explorer 2000 does the same thing going up hill. Especially with a loaded trailer on.
Local mechanic had it for the day and couldn't put his finger on it.
I can alleviate the problem by turning the AUTO Trak knob to 4x4 Hi while driving and the jerking stops.
I'll keep an eye here to see what others think
Cheers
Trevor

84 ford ranger will start but wont stay running

You would check the EEC relay, and the fuel pump relay, then check for fuel pressure with a gauge and find out if the pump is running when the engine dies.

1996 ford ranger -3.0 ltr

Had a similar problem and it just ended up being the sensor for the EVAP controls.  Stupid I know but it fixed the rough idle. Error code was P1443. Worth a try.
