Is the timing belt to tight, that will cause the kind of noise you are describing.

Well that noise you hear is normal. on your stock intake it muffles the sound and on your after market one it dont the sound you are hearing is from the (IAC) idle air control. if you look an your throttle boddy you will see a big set screw should be next to the line that runs next to your e-vap if you tighten that screw the sound will quit down if you loosen it will get louder but if you change that screw it will change your idle

Tappet gap on 1.6 2003 vtec civic

The firing order is 1-3-4-2. The gap is listed on the emission information sticker under the hood. This sticker will have lots of info which includes valve lash. It will be listed in millimeters, example: 0.22 +/- .02mm. Some feeler gauges list both standard and mm measurements, otherwise a conversion can be found without much trouble. This procedure should be done while the engine is cold to get the best results.

Why a 1997 honda civic engine surges at idle

which engine, options there are many.???
cant fix any engine, until you know what it there.
a civic not Tacoma. as posted.
see end for engines ????

surge 101 (running gasoline?)
it caused by 2 things. (and lots of reasons)
1: engine running lean. all engines lean surge. fix that first.
hint use a scan tool see live data........?????
2: ISC system is faulting, the idle speed controller can fail for #1
or for itself. (it can stick) clean in.

wiki list of engines. (which one???????????????)_
The sixth generation featured engine options were available along with their first Natural Gas Powered Civic, the GX. From 1996-2000 the Civic was sold under the CX, DX, EX, EXR, HX, LX, and for Canada, SE, and Si trims; all base models were made with 1.6L engines. The EX-CX are all SOHC (Honda D engine). The CX, DX, and LX all have D16y7 non-VTEC engines; whereas the EX has a D16y8 VTEC, and the HX has D16y5 VTEC-E. The USDM Si and Canadian SiR came with a DOHC (B16A2 VTEC). The first civic SI coupe EM1 was introduced in 1999 until 2000. Europe saw a DOHC 1.6 VTI hatch and sedan and a DOHC 1.8VTI engine was available for the Domani related five-door liftback and esta

we need engine displace ment or exact honda type. ID
to answer fully.,
my guess, is the engine leaks oil and you have tried fix it
odd, you did the hard ones first. why not the valve cover
did you know there are 2 ways to find leaks.
1: clean it , all off, then run it and look. see live leak.
best is to do that with out driving as the wind blows it about.
find it , now you know what leaking.
2: use the UV dye kit.
quote wiki, but WHAT ENGINE ?????????????????

first tell engine, ! DOHC is quite different.

What is a v v t selinode

(As in the Honda VTEC engines.) VTEC = (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control)
In a VVT equiped engine the valve timing (How long an intake or exhaust valve is open or closed) is controled by this solenoid. As in the Honda VTEC engines there is an extra intake cam with its own rocker, which follows this cam. The profile on this cam keeps the intake valve open longer than the other cam profile. At low engine speeds, this rocker is not connected to any valves. At high engine speeds, a piston locks the extra rocker to the two rockers that control the two intake valves.

What other engine will fit a 97 civic ex?

The 96-98 Civic EX came with an OBD2A D16Y8 engine. That is the only engine that will go in as a direct replacement with your current engine ECU. It's an SOHC VTEC engine that has two extra connections not found on the other 96-98 Civic engines - a VTEC solenoid and a special oil sensor used to determine if VTEC engagement is possible. If you swap in an older Civic engine (92-95 generation) you'll have to convert the car to OBD1 (requires a special adapter hardness) and run the ECU that goes with whatever engine you use. This will break functionality of your OBD2 diagnostics port, and depending on which state you live in will cause you to fail emissions checks. If you install a D16Y8 engine from a 99-00 Civic EX, you will have to swap the intake and exhaust manifolds from your old engine to the new engine, and you will be able to continue to run your existing OBD2A wiring and ECU. The 99-00 Civic EX engines have additional sensors, since those engines are OBD2B. The easiest fix would be to find a SOHC VTEC D16Y8 from a 96-98 Civic EX, as it would be a direct plug and play replacement.

Vtec wont work

More than likely its your temp sensor on the front of the engine, Ive seen it be the cause of things similar including high idle when car first starts(happened to me when I switched out my 1.5 for 1.6 sohc vtec engine, engine was built as an automatic so i changed out the flywheel etc but no place for the sensor) and happens to be the sensor for my radiator at the same time so it controls the fan.
