Question about 2006 Chevrolet Impala

1 Answer

Engine problems I currenty own a 2006 Chev Impala, Today while driving to work on the express way a serivce light came on. It stated " Reduced Engine Power" then my car would not run the same. I have about half of tank of gas, i keep up with the scheduled oil changes. I do drive about 60 miles a day to and from work. I looked in the manual and it did not give me any specific information. Only if it did not go away, to take the car to service. Can anyone give me some 411 before i take her to the doctor??? Thank you, Albert Torres

I have around 100,000 miles on my Impala. I put 100 miles a day on it just to work and back - about 2,500-3,000 a month on average total. We've experienced problems with the reduced engine power light coming on for about 6 months. Only lately have we actually experienced a reduction in power. Also, our fuel mileage suddenly decreased from 32 average to lucky to get 30 average. Our serviceman at the dealership doesn't have a clue!

What if my engine power reduced light comes on?? can I still drive it?

Yes but only for a short distance.
The engine computer is working in limp mode to allow the driver to get to a shop for repairs.
Check your owners manual for details.

Since I have no idea where you live and what the weather is, I am asking if your engine is carbureted. In cold and damp weather, I had a similar problem which was cured by warmth from the engine heating the carb. (It was called carburetor icing.)

with professional test equipment, to find any codes &
systems with the faults, before any component testing

P2176=Throttle Actuator Control System - Idle Position Not Learned
Did you use all you old sensors,or is some of them from the new engine,I would swap out the IAC sensor or check for wires not hooked up.
If it can't relearn to idle the Idle air control might be different then your old one,but its not registering with the computer

2006 Chevy Impala reduced engine power

best bet is to stop in at a Pep Boys, Autozone, or similar big autoparts seller, and ask for free trouble code scan, which should pinpoint area causing problem. If not obvious by codes, what is necessary to repair the problem code, get back to us with those codes and we will be glad to assist you further. Better this way, takes away the guess work, and saves you money, as well as getting it right the first time.

2006 Impala. Minor engine miss past week with slight power loss. All of a sudden engine power reduced light displays and 20 mph max.

Take the car to Autozone or similar dealer for free scan of the engine computer. Many things can cause similar problems. Good luck!
