Ghost Car Hi My 2000 528i automatically opens all windows and sunroof at anychance it gets. the alarm also trips off when it feels like and the doors lock and open by choice too. I have come back to meet my car open several times and with fall setting in, not only do i risk theft, my interior might also succum to the weather. During these opened times, there is also trouble locking the car...the windows open over and over again. please help. how did you fix yours?

Well first find a priest... oh wait just kidding.... you need to locate the power relay for windows and replace it... it is located on the fuse panel which i have recently learned is likely located in the trunk on a bmw.

This kind of 'ghost' may be caused by a corroded grounding point.

Panic alarm issue

There's either a broken wire in the door jam in one of the doors, or one of the latches is bad and is sending the signal that it is being opened after the alarm is set. The most common place for the wires to break is on the drivers side front door because that one gets used the most. Also does the vehicle have a sunroof? The sunroof drains have a tendency to plug with leaves and debris which will cause the water to back-up the tube for the drain and it will puddle on the floor. The Comfort control module is located on the drivers front floor and if that gets wet that will also malfunction causing the alarm and various features not to work. As someone suggested you can pull the fuse to the Comfort control module but you will lose all your power windows locks and a couple other things as well, but it is an option.

The sunroof on my 2002 VW Golf is stuck in a slightly open position (about 1 inch open). It goes back to this position no matter what the sunroof switch is pointing to. How can I get it to close/work...

try this first (cheapest remedy first) open the sunroof fully take key out of ignition shut all doors then put the key in drivers door and hold key over 30 secs to unlock car(windows will go down)then wait 30 secs.then put key back in drivers door and hold key over 30 secs to lock car, windows will go up and the sunroof will close.if the sunroof does not shut properly then we start with motor park switch.....

Central locking and windows unusable due to leak

I've been dealing with similar problems (windows and sunroof dead, power locks iffy, dome light doesn't work, random chiming) and best I can figure is:

a) get rid of the leak and any standing water
b) depending on the year of your car check the relays and/or central locking module

I spent a lot of time checking the ECU and door interior parts and those were both dead ends. I also thought the standing water on the floor might be shorting actual wiring, but now I've eliminated that as well. Although my alarm hasn't been going off, the "door chime" has and the instrument cluster sometimes shows 3 or 4 doors open while driving. VAG-COM showed some alarm trip type faults as well. Central locking is my next move when I've got some time.

I can't get my sunroof to close. my message board

Most likely the alarm siren module has failed. The alarm module is wired in series with the sunroof module. If the alarm siren fails (and it does) it will take the sunroof module offline with it.

What I would do is to unplug the module and cycle the key. If it is the siren module the sunroof will work. If it still doesn't work then it could be a wiring problem and would need to be taken to a trusted shop for repairs.

Here is a link to a website that will show detailed instructions on how to remove the alarm module.

After the module is disconnected you may need to reinitilize the UEM. Get in the car and shut the door.

For most you can turn the key on and off, then lock and unlock the car with the remote.

For others just lock and unlock the car three times.

I hope this helps.

2003 Subaru Legacy Outback: Driver's door lock brocken, tab feels

alot of times a lock smith has "slim jimmed" the car before and that subsequently can break clips or knock off lock rods to the latch. not too hard to fix if you can get the door open in order to remove inner door panel accessing that latch and rods...if the door wont open i have used a very long ,slendy screwdriver and poked down the window opening to mannually open the door latch ...it takes a little time and some gentle poking to hit the lever on that door latch

Ghostly functions

I would check the key hole on the drivers door, and make sure that it is the "neutral" position I know this worked on a friends 328, her key hole was sticking slightly to the unlock position causing the same problems that your having, there is a sensor in there that when you insert the key and turn it to the unlock position and hold it for a sec or so it will open all the windows and unlock all the doors
