I dropped the bulb and socket while trying to solve the same problem. Two new bulbs and one new socket still have not solved the problem.

Both top and bottom brake lights on the right side do not work. Running lights and flashers work fine.

I have noticed this problem in my wife's Highlander and a friends minivan. I removed the light bulbs and reinstalled them ensuring that the light bulb was properly seated. The lights then began working again. May have been some dirt not allowing the light bulb to be properly grounded. You may want to clean out the area with alcohol or inspect the area for corrosion.

If the left is ok we know that it is not the fuse, so remove the right bulb out and then use a test light and check if you have power at the socket in which you took the bulb out from, usuly the socket is bad or you may have a wire that is broken

SOURCE: Brake light, reverse light and turn signal issues

Hello. The symptoms you are describing are likely due to a poor ground. Temporarily install a new ground wire by securing a piece of copper wire to the frame with a self tapping screw. Use this ground wire along with the hot wire to see if each of these lights works. If it does, trace the ground wire back to the frame, unscrew it and clean up the metal with emery cloth so you reestablish a good ground.

SOURCE: left & right brake light not on

Could be the brake switch that is mounted to the brake pedal area. Check if you have voltage out from there when brakes are applied, there may be two leads one for the high mount and one for regular brake lights.

Why doesn't passenger side brake light work?

Either your bulb is out or there is a bad connection somewhere. Usually in the socket. Clean up the connections if needed.

Right hand brake light not working vp commodore.bulb has been replaced but still no go

I assume the left hand brake light works.
First check that you have replaced it with the correct bulb. Make sure it is the same as the left hand brake light bulb.
Sounds silly but different bulbs will fit the same socket, but not work.
Make sure no one will push the brake pedal and see that contacts are clean and there is spring pressure behind the contact in the socket. If all the above is okay then you probably have a wiring problem.
Either the earth wire, usually black, is damaged or not connected to earth (body work) .
Or the power wire from left hand side light is cut or damaged. Check the colour of the wire on the left hand brake light. It will be the same for the right side.
If you have a trailer plug follow the wire from it back to where it connects to the cars original wiring. The problem could be at that connection.
Good luck
