Question about 1995 Ford Mustang

1 Answer

Revs wont go higher than 2000rpm

I pull up to a stop sign and give the car gas. If I put my foot to the floor with the clutch in, the vehicle will not go past 2000rpm and it sputters very badly. It seems to go like putt, putt, putt. It quits when I take my foot off the gas and the car then runs normal. Techs cannot find the problem.

Engine reving on start

Hi there,

When cold, modern EFI engines are designed to idle higher, until the engine warms to operating temperature. The idle should then return to around 700rpm.

If your engine still revs at 2000rpm after warming up, then there is a problem with the fuel/air mixture, or a possible air or vacuum leak.

In this case, your vehicle's computer will have stored the appropriate fault code/s. Have your codes read by your local Renault dealer to determine which circuit is the cause.

My car under revs and sometimes over revs when statonary, when mooving and the revs drop it shudders and noise comes from the exhaust area and i have to put mu foot on the clutch to stop it

Most likely the Throttle Body needs cleaning, if it has fuel injection this is probably something you want to have a mechanic do for you but be sure to tell them the symptoms. This is often caused by "cheap gas" but occurs even with the best fuel over time.

TRANSMISSON PROBLEMS

if its manual sounds like your clutch could be slipping does car smell of burt clutch?
check cluth adjustment
may need new clutch
do stall test with hand brake on, foot (heel-toe) on brake and accel pedal to about 2000rpm then let out clutch and car should stall if engine revs go down and engine still runs but you can rev causing slip and you will now smell what slipping burnt clutch is replace it.

if its auto check trans oil level and what does it look like red-good
darker red to black-bad often smells burnt also possibly new trans required.
