Thanks i load tested the battery it was good and the car started so i had the alternator tested it was running low. so the alternator is bad. what really had me going was the noise the car was making. it was god awefull loud when it was trying to start. im not a complete idiot i do all the work on my cars myself but that sound threw me for a loop. so im thinking its got to be some major problem cause i havent had no problems at all with the car. Most of all i appreciate your quick response. i dont know how to just reply to you so im doing another one of these.

check all battery connections are good and clean and tight if they are and that is not the problem. Try jumping battery with cables if it starts it will usually be a bad battery or alternator or starter moter,.check voltage at battery should be 13 volts or better. If less charge battery load test battery or take it to auto parts store and have it load tested. if battery is good check voltage with car running it should be between 13.5 and 15 if lower or higher voltage check belt on alternator (if lower voltage). If voltage is high or low and belt is ok remove alternator and have tested at any parts store .It is usually free. If none of these items check bad Remove starter motor and have it tested . again free at most auto parts stores.n If this was helpful please leave good feed back

Can start battery light on the starter is turning

The car can start up and run but the battery light is on, is this correct? if this is correct then have the alternator and battery tested, you may have a bad alternator or battery, most of the time the battery light turns on when battery voltage is less than 12 volts and the alternator is not charging the battery above 12 volts, test alternator, the car will die out if the alternator is not charging the battery, the engine will run until the voltage in the battery gets to low and then the car will start to do funny things, if the computers in your car do not have the correct voltage they will send false readings and make the engine run bad and shut down. good day.

Jaguar 1999 XJ8L battery won't start unless I

This problem could be a number of things. Let's start buy checking for light bulbs that are not going out when car is shut off, such as under hood lid, under trunk lid, inside of car that are hard to see, such as lights that usually stay on till you leave car but normally go of after a few seconds. You can tell buy waiting a while, they will be hot to touch. If this is so this is your problem.
Next check alternator, get an ohm meter, start car, set ohm meter to about 20 volts, and with car running put ohm meter cables red to positive of battery and black to negative of battery. This test should let you know if alternator is working and good if reading is between 13- 14.50 volts, if you do your alternator is good,if not alternator is problem.
Next check the battery with ohm meter. With ohm meter set the same way to 20 volts, and car off , put red lead to positive post and black lead to negative post . Your reading should be 12-12.50 volts. If reading is low 9-10 volts then the final test would be a load test. You may have to go to your mechanic, or a battery dealer for this one because not everyone has a load tester. This test will tell you if you need a new battery. They will know right away. Your problem could be a bad battery. All the above tests are for DIY. If you are not able to perform these tests yourself then go to a battery dealer they will do tests for you. GOOD LUCK.

I have a 1998 expedition and i just put a new battery, alternator and starter. but the alternator is not charging the battery at all.. what else can it be? what else is in between the battery and...

Take it to any good parts store and have charging system tested and battery load tested. At battery voltage (while running) should be 13.1v- 14.4 v anything lower then your "new" alternator is bad.

Picture of battery lights up on dash panel, car starts and runs, coolants/fluids are fine

Your alternator is likely bad. Start the car, disconnect the battery, if it stops you need a new one - or head down to the parts store to ask them to test it on the car for you.

Hope this helps.

My car will start and idle fine even with lights, heater, ect turned on but when i start to drive it the battery will drain, why? We put a new alternator on the car and are still having the same problem.

Possibly the new alternator is bad or is not hooked up properly. Take it to any major auto parts store and they will do a free diagnosis of your charging system to help pinpoint the problem.

My 2000 mercury Mystique wont start when i turn the key in the ignition is just clicks what could it be alternator starter or battery?

first check battery voltage. should be 12 volts or a little over. IF the battery is low then charge battery and then load test battery. If you remove you battery and take it to local parts store most will check for you. if battery load test good but was low on voltage then I would check to see that alternator is charging while engine is running. should be charging aprox 13.9 volts. if battery had full voltage and load tested good then most likely the starter is bad.

The alternator is still good but everytime i jump start the car it makes it half a block and dies.

Your alternator is charging however it is not still good if it does what you are stating. Also what is the condition of your battery if you have to keep jumping your car? Car batteries don't like to be completely discharge and may not hold there charge again once run dead and may need replaced... Alternator has to have be bad as it needs to be load tested to best determine it's true output. Most auto parts stores do a run test and no load test. Load test will tell amperage rate and true quality of an alternator.

Wont start

Start vehicle up and take vehicle to an AUTO-ZONE they will check the entire charging system for FREE. This could BAD battery or a BAD alternator or even maybe both. So let not guess or if you have a volt meter at home with vehicle running voltage at battery polls should be at least 14 volts and without vehicle is running battery should be at least 12volts how ever with voltmeter you can't LOAD-TEST battery or alternator, But if alternator is less than 14volts it may be charging too low and if batter is less than 12 after it was fully charged or after car had been running for at least 15 minutes> BATTERY IS BAD> Good Luck and contact if you need more help. Thanks for using FIX YA
