  • Pam Colbert Oct 07, 2015

I did try to reset key fob 4 different ways, I was getting upset so I maynot have done it correctly. But ty, Do the actual switch out key ever wear out? It does appear the security has locked down, Again tyvm, I will call the mechanic again today, to ask if he tried reset key fob, rest than try codes again, perhaps thats why my jag wouldnt allow his tool to read codes

Your key FOB is easily programmed by yourself without the need of computer, here is how: Push and hold the trip computer button on the left stalk, while holding the button turn the ignition ON and OFF several times untill you hear a confirmation tone from the glovebox area, when the tone is heard, release the button and remove the key from the ignition, immediately after push any button on the Key FOB and you'll hear another tone that confirms the programming.

More infomation can be found at http:www.bluejag.co.uk Jaguar X-Type Programming (Pairing) a Remote KeyFob X-Type 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0L
reprogramming jaguar x type key fob - keyfob.jpg

Programming or pairing a new remote Keyfob for the X Type is a very simple job that will cost a substantial amount if it is done by Jaguar. It's annoying but this may need to be done if your Keyfob battery has been allowed to go flat, or the car battery has been removed for any length of time.
Follow these steps exactly and you should have no problems, pairing old or replacement Keyfobs for your car.

1.)I would recommended that you ensure all key fobs are fitted with new batteries. ( Click here to see battery replacement guide).
2.)Get in the car and close the drivers side door.
3.)Put the key into the ignition and turn to position I.
4.)Wait 5 seconds
5.)Turn the key quickly to position II then back to I four times.
6.)You should hear a single chime.
7.)Remove the Key
8.)For each Keyfob in rapid succesion. Press any single button on the keyfob you wish to pair, you should hear a chime as each Keyfob is paired with the security system. After the chime do the next Keyfob.
9.)Check operation of each Keyfob.

This needs to be done through a electronic diagnostic tool at a dealership or workshop.

2003 Jaguar S-Type, programming a key fob

If its a new key fob the only way you can program it is this the factory scan tool, u'll have to take it to a dealership for them to do this and they will charge you .5 hrs for labor.only x-types can be programmed without the jaguar software. Im guessing it will cost you between 40 and 50 bucks to have them program it.

2003 Jaguar S-Type, programming a key fob

The switchblade key would need to be compatable with your ignition switch barrel. Only normally available from jag dealers who check the Jag owners register before supplying you a replacement.
The older type seperate fobs could be programmed by switching the ignition on and off 8 times (allowing all functions to settle) and on the 9th switch on - press a button on each fob and then switch off. to test use a good fob to lock the car then try the reprogammed fob to unlock/lock. Sometimes this works first time - sometimes needs a couple of tries.
