2004 Dodge Stratus automatic has trouble shifting gears

Mt wife's 2004 Stratus recently had the check engine light come one. Since then, it has had trouble shifting to higher gears. It starts and runs fine until it tries to go into 4th gear speeds. It starts jerking after that. However, it does not always do this. Sometimes it runs fine without any jerking. I've only driven it a couple times since then check engine light came on though.

I took my battery out of my 2004 dodge coupe and I have been having trouble ever since. First a constantly drained battery, got that replaced drove great, The guy who reattached the battery said that when he attached the new battery there could have been a problem with the starter because it seemed as though the battery was immediately drained some. After that no telling because now my engine light is on. It Drove great right after the new battery, but then after a week started driving funny and draggin again and now my engine light is on, and the car is driving at a snails place

My wife's 2005 Stratus check engine light also comes on every so often. I took it to a local parts store for a free diagnostic check and found it to be the THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR. I am trying to find a reasonable price for the part to give it a try. I have also spoke to local mechanics who also confirmed the diagnostic.

I had the same problem - it was a fuse that controls the speedometer and the shifting solenoid

The only way to find out what caused your check engine light to come on is to get a ODB II code reader or take it to a repair shop and let them read the codes that are stored in your cars computer. The check engine light can come on for transmission problems as well as engine problems in newer cars (1996 or newer). From what I read about the three problems that are mentioned above they are not caused by the same issue. (Hate to be the bearer of bad news). For the transmission problem, I would take the car to a repair shop and get the transmission fluid and filter changed as soon as possible. The Throttle Position sensor problem will most likely be fixed by a new throttle position sensor. The battery problem sounds like it could be a short or electrical draw on the electrical system of the car. Be aware, these type of electrical problems are VERY hard to sort out because it could be almost anything. Disconnect the battery and charge it. after you know it is fully charged reconnect the battery, take each fuse out one at a time while having the bright headlights on and see if any fuses being removed cause the lights to be brighter there is a problem with the curcuit that the removed fuse protects. Don't forget, on most new cars, there are also fuses under the hood and under the dash.

I wish all 3 of you much good luck.

Both are possible but from your description it sounds like the truck is in limp home mode. You need to put a scanner on it and see if any codes are set. Then repair the code and reset it then see what happens.

2001 dodge stratus stuck in 2nd gear after engine and trans swap...reverse is just fine. starts in 2nd and only stays there. What's going on??

Stuck is 2nd means it's in limp in mode. Get the trouble codes scanned to find out what's going on.

My isuzu drives fine until the check trans light starts flashin and the dash lights flicker , the truck struggles as soon as this happens, Like its having trouble finding the right gear. This all happens...

The voltage regulator in your altenator may be going out. If you have a battery gauge in your dash, see if the voltage is getting higher than 14V when the problem occurs.

Your transmission is an electronic shift, and if the voltage gets too high, your car tries to start off in a higher gear than what it is supposed to and will run very badly.

Bring to tranny shop or repair shop, have it scanned for trouble codes, many electrical parts and solonoids in those trannys, possible it may just be a shift solonoid bad or needs adjustment, much cheaper than replacing tranny. good luck!
