Question about 2004 Saturn VUE

Battery light keeps coming on and steering wheel noise

I have a 2004 Saturn VU and the battery light keeps coming on when I turn the car on. It has been doing this for the past 4 months now and also I now have a noise in the steering wheel that just started. It sounds like a rubbing sound when I turn the steering wheel to the left or to the right. Do you think I might need steering fluid for this or what do you think could be the problem? Thank you in advance for your advice

When I had my battery replaced. The battery light came on and has now been on for 6 months all the time. I tried taking off the battery leads but after connecting again, the light returns.

Hi,

Initially, would suspect that the vehicle has a loose belt that is common to the power steering pump and the alternator.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

How do I replace turn signal switch for 2004 l300?

It's in the steering column .unplug the battery, negative side, and start taking the steering wheel off. Most parts stores will loan you a steering wheel puller. Pretty easy after that. Just make sure you have the steering wheel centered before tightening up the bolt holding it on. Just one tooth off can make steering unpleasant.

My steering wheel is heavy and when i turn the wheel it makes a lot of noise, theres also noise coming from somewhere in the front of the car as I accelerate. The battery light on the dash is on.

Replace the belt and retension it properely as it appears the the belt is slipping hence no power steering pump assist and the alternator is not driving

Got angery and puched the yoke and now the horn is stuck on, how can i fix this. I have the battery disconnected so no noise right now. Vehicle 2004 Saturn Vue 5 speed manual

Disconnect the horn relay first so you can reconnect the battery, then replace the horn button on the steering wheel.

Here are the instructions for removing the air bag for access to the switch.

Remove the upper steering column shroud and the fasteners. Turn the steering wheel to the 3 o'clock position.Insert the medium flat blade screwdriver into the triangle hole in the steering column shroud.
Turn the screwdriver to release the spring fastener while lifting on the corner of the bag closest to that fastener.

Turn the steering wheel to the 9 o'clock position. Insert the medium flat blade screwdriver into the triangle hole in the steering column shroud.
Turn the screwdriver to release the spring fastener until all the spring fasteners are released.

Disconnect the wiring then remove the inflator module, to get to the horn button. Note; make sure you ave the Battery disconnected to ensure your safe from any accidental Air Bag deployment.

Good luck and hope this helps.

I was driving along and my battery light came on, then when i stopped to make a turn the service light came on and the lights blinked the car stalled and would not start again, i have power but wont turn...

Hi Cindy,

Were there any other symptoms that coincided with the car dying?

Power steering sluggish?
Overheating?
A/C quit?

If so, pop the hood and check the serpentine belt. This belt drives the alternator, power steering pump, A/C compressor, etc.

Let me know more detail.

I Have a 2004 Saturn vue ,there is a squeely noise

I would suspect the wheel bearing, as these start to fail they tend to make more noise in one direction of load than the other.
