Question about 1992 Honda Accord

1 Answer

Door latch I saw that you had replied to another question about the inside door latch of an Accord. My problem is that the handle/latch that opens the door now flops because of the broken plastic mount/housing behind it. Basically, the plastic that the chrome handle attaches to is split and the handle can then pull away from the door. Does this require disassembling the door or can the work be done easily? Any help you could provide would be great. Thanks in advance.

Once you remove the screw that is holding the plastic piece, for the latch it should slide out you dont have to remove the pannel to do this but in order to remove the door panel you have to remove the little plastic piece!!!

98 accord door handle broke door will not open

A non electric door, (which?) wont open, lock works ok, handle wont open the door.
What can I do to fix it.
well telling the door to us would help, and options.
so no electric locks,
there are 2 levers. one inside and one outside.
so you pull the door card (inside door covering)
and look at both locks , the inside pull, its it working?
then look at the key lock cylinder. is it connected still
and last are both connected to the latch mechanism.
one can cycle this latch lever inside the door shell.
if that fails the latch is busted.
all this is covered in the FSM ,why not read it.? (under body)
free , too.

1998 honda accord driver side door won't open inside or outside but it can lock and unlock.

The lock / unlock operations are performed either electrically or manually directly on the solenoid installed on each door, and has nothing to do with the opening mechanism. In all probability, the metal rod that goes up from the door latching mechanism to the outside and inside handle, has become unattached / dislodged from the unit. This requires taking down the inside of the door panel, in order to reach the latch, and its operating rods. Look elsewhere on Fixya, for instructions on how to dismount the door panel. I think i provided instructions for this in the past.

92 Accord. Driver door not opening. Lock works. Took inside cover off. Rods going in to the Lock don't seem to be grabing any thing to open the door?

It sounds as though one of the rods (the one leading from the inside door handle to the latch, called the release rod. The other is called the lock rod) has slipped out of the latch at the door closure. Since you have removed the door liner (and the plastic skin, I assume) you should be able (with your window all the way down) to see what the situation is through the access hole near the lock/latch portion of the door. If the rod that hooks into the inner door handle doesn't feel as though it is connected to anything (when you pull it toward the front of the car) then the other end of that rod (the latch connection) has either broken or simply slipped out of the hole that it goes through (and may have fallen down some). There is normally a plastic rod retainer or something of that sort at both ends of that rod, to keep the rod in the holes it's supposed to go through. Sometimes they break of work loose. Take a careful look and you will probably be able to see if that is the problem. You say that the lock works. Does the outside door handle work? If so, that tends to indicate that there is nothing wrong with the latch itself.

The inside and outside door handles will not work on my wifes 1999 honda accord. The lock works but i cannot get the door to open. it feels like the handle isnt catching on anything.

latches are siezed and will require so help to open. try using a rubber mallet and tapping the outside door handle till it seems to have some resistance. you might have to tap alot. once the latch spring is in the right place then lock and unlock car to activate the clips and then pull handle. repeat untill door opens, then take door apart, remove latch and oil till all clips and spring move freely. Now put it all back together and it should work well.

Drivers door will not open from outside but will open from the in

Inside of your door there are rods that pull the latch open and close and it sounds like your rod from the inner handle to the latch has disconected...take your door panel off and see if that is the problem

Interior door handle replacement 1992 honda accord

Do u mean the door latch, which u pull to open the door, or the plastic molded handle u grab to shut the door? If it's the latch, there are two small round plugs in the plastic area of the door lock and locking switch. Use a small flat end screwdriver to pry them out , exposing two philips head screws. If this isn't what u needed, let me know, I'll get more info for u. countrycurt0
