Question about 1998 Ford Windstar
My husband and a friend took the engine out of our 1998 Windstar (3.8l) and are having trouble remembering where all the connections go. I haven't worked as a wrench in about 12 yrs so am working almost blind. Does anyone know the connect points for all the ground straps on this engine? Please?????

All these systems are controlled by the GEM, that is the Generic Electronic Module, have Kragen run a quick test and see if the system has codes, but most likely the Module is defective, it is located on top of the fuse panel to the left of the steering column. I have 30 years as a Ford tech so I am pretty darn sure of this diagnose.

starter ground/earth strap/cable is normally the cable negative that comes from battery and connects to the engine or where the trans joins engine ? also it may have a seperate strap connected from some location on the chassis and to engine if you trace neg cable from battery you will find where it connect to engine try at point rear of engine? ensue they are clean/secure starter motor takes its ground fro this ie engine--battery

it's not likely a bad o2 sensor would cause it to run rough, but the catylitic converter, which is what the o2 sensor reads the flow of, would cause the car to idle and run rough. If you take it to an auto parts store to have a diagnostic test ran on it( most major parts stores will do this for free), thecodes it gets would help pin point it alot better.

check for a loose wire at the back of the cluster, it will look like it is still in the connector but it is not all the way in, I forgot witch pin it is but it is in the middle row or bottom and about the 5-8th pin from the left, Hope this helps
