seems to be my mantra this time of year (condensation). check the relay for the airbags... be advised because it is the airbag... to prevent accidental deployment of the airbag when you replace the relay... unhook the battery while you do that.

you take it to a repair shop and they unhook your transmission cooler lines and pump old fluid out and install new fluid in.
SOURCE: i can not remove the key from my chevy colbalt 2006
In the Cobalt the problem is that there is a small bar in the shifter that is supposed to hit a micro switch and that bar can came out of place.
It will not hitting that micro switch to allow the ignition to release the key when the car is in park.
What to do is tear the center council apart and pull the whole shift mechanism out and reposition the bar and put it all back together.
Yes it's a pain and time consuming
Good luck and hope this helps, and be careful not to damage the ignition lock, you could damage the wires in the ignition lock for the anti theft.

THE MOST COMMON PROBLEM IS IN THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY. IT HAS A PLASTIC PART IN THE SHIFT LEVER THAT BREAKS NOT ALLOWING THE BTSI SOLENOID TO WORK PROPERLY THUS NOT ALLOWING THE IGNITION CYLINDER TO ROTATE TO RELEASE THE KEY.

If all else fails, new ignition switches are not very expensive.
