Question about Toyota Matrix

1 Answer

When i use the brake, especially at high speds it makes a loud vibrating noise, the sterring wheel vibrates and shakes a little. this starting happening after i got al alignment and new tires put on. i thought it was because the alignment wasn't done properly, but the dealership said it is ok

I have the same problem. When I brake, the entire car shutters--a loud repeating sound... whump, whump, whump. I took it to a mechanic who machined the rotors, which took care of the problem for about a month.
I am currently looking at replacing the rotors myself. Any suggestions.

The alignment would not affect your breaking as the alignment only controles the direction that the front wheels face. You may need to check your rotors and make sure they do not need replaced and check the breaks while you are at it. The pads should be evenly worn and the rotor should be evenly worn as well. There should be no deeps grooves in the rotor or break pads.

My truck shakes at highway speeds

How old are the tires on the vehicle-sounds like a balance problem that happens at certain speeds. Does the vibration happen at any other speeds? When were the tires balanced last? If balance is ok then check out the steering system for loose and worn parts. There is a possibility of a park brake backing plate rust issue- what is the make and model. Newer trucks use a park brake with 4 wheel disc brake that mounts in the smaller cavity of the rotor on the rear axle. This would cause the noise you describe and the vibration.

I hear a loud grinding noise when i drive my car

Check front tyres & wheel bearings espesially the R/H/F. Feel tyre for high / low spots on inside & jack up & spin wheel if you get noise while jacked up it is not the tyres but wheel bearing or brake pads but more than likly a crook bearing by the sound of it. It needs to be tended to ASAP

COULD HAVE LOW AND HIGH SPOTS IN THE BRAKE ROTORS.CHECK TIRES FOR DEFECTS.COULD NEED FRONT END ALIGNMENT OR BAD WHEEL BEARINGS CAUSE WHEELS VIBRATION.

I replaced the brakes all around on my wifes pontiac torrent, she complained of a vibration in the pedal, now with new rotors and drums at high speeds especially when brakeing down hill there is a hum and...

Absolutely; wasn't positive until you mentioned the 'hum'. Bad bearings first warning sign is usually the humming noise before the vibration but since you have both, I'd be shocked if it weren't the bearinig, especially since you've got new rotors. In the past, a badly turned or warped rotor would mimic a bad bearing. Best of luck.

Vibrating proplem

Your car has front disc brakes, the disc's are running out of true, as u apply the brake this causes the steering wheel to shake, the higher the speed the more u feel this, the solution is to have the front brake disc's machined true again on a brake lathe or if they are to thin replace them.

Could be a tie rod, CV joint, wheel bearing, or even a bushing. You won't know untill you get into it.
