Question about 2001 Dodge Neon
2002 neon service engine light on and i have two codes p0430 and p1684.. the car is getting harder to drive.. it seems to be getting harder to start when it does stall and while driving at highway speed it cuts out and resumes.what problem would be the most impartant to fix first.. or should both be fixed at the same time,, thank you Dave and Gloria
P0430 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold
P1684 simply means the battery was disconnected within the last 50 key starts.
The P0430 is the important code to deal with. Either the catalyst is stopped up or the Oxygen sensor(s) are not working. This problem will effect the driveability of your car very badly. The easy and cheaper thing to replace is your Oxygen sensor (s) (some cars have more than one Oxygen sensor, replace both if that is the case). If that isn't the problem take the car to the dealership because this could be called an emissions problem and most manufacturers have a 100,000 mile warranty on the emissions system, you might be able to get the catalytic converter replaced for free.
