I am having a problem with the air ride the rear air bags are up all the way and are not releasing the air to come down. the pump is running. i dont know the history of the car only that i just put the motor in the car. other than that i know nothing. i was wondering also if it could be caused by someone lifting the car with out shuting the switch off in the trunk?

These Lincoln air suspensions are terrible. I have converted many over to coil springs at a fraction of the cost of replacing/repairing the bags. If the rear bags don't inflate, there is a broken air line to the bags or the bags are leaking
air bags solenoid is stuck open releasing air this happens when you raise then lower car in normal working mode valve opens closes as need to maintain ride hight when car is jacked up it thinks the bags have been filled emtys bags when you lower car down to readjust height you need new bags and a new compressor it will burn up trying to fill fill fill when it cannot suncore industries around 370.00 for everthing 2 to 3 hrs to replace
Here's an idea to get you started. Put the back end of the car up on ramps so you can crawl underneath it. With the front tires blocked securely, have a helper get into the car and roll down the windows so they can hear you talk from under the car. Have the parking brake set. Take a bucket or container of soapy water and a brush, and / or a spray bottle of soapy water, and crawl under to car. Have the helper start the car, and look and listen for leaks. I have heard the air bags leak on air ride cars after a few years. The soapy water should show a leak when applied to the air bags and the air lines.
Shut off pump switch located in drivers side panel door in trunk. Jack up car at frame and support with jack stands. This will make sure the car does not come down on you when you release the air. Pop retaining off of solenoid valve located at top of airbag and turn valve to first stop till air starts releasing
On this model vehicle the rear shockers should have air bags to keep car at normal ride height, when load changes. The air bag can sometimes become caught between inner and outer tubes of shocker when car is raised and lowered quickly. You will need to jack car up from tow hitch or frame to lower rear axle, this will unfold air bag, slowly lower car, with ignition on, this will make sure air compressor is filling air bags as they take the load. Hope this is helpful, MMP
it sounds like there is a problem with the rear air bags. the air bags are there to help give you a softer ride.
3 spots i would check are the air bags themselves, the air pump located under the hood, or a proprtioning valve
