Question about 1966 Ford Mustang

How to determine correct tranny from vin number?

After having 66 Mustang Conv restored, found that tranny fitting for speedometer was not reachable. The people who restored it said the numbers called for switching the 4 speed that was in it for a 3 speed, which they did. I am wondering if I was dooped. Maybe this tranny is for the wrong year or something. Is there a difference in tailpiece lengths?
Thanks

Hi reedyr, hope this will help you

6F08TXXXXXX 6=model yr F=assembly plant 08= convert body type T= 200cid engine
6 through 11 is a consecutive unit #
not for title or registration

76A F 22 20W 33 2 6
body color trim date dso axle Trans

the 6 in this example is for a dual range automatic (C4) The standard engine and trans for the 66 were the 200cid 3spd. The cruise-o-matic became available with the "K" code and only 5,469 were produced. 289's were letter coded as c, a, or k depending on hp.The 4 spd was an option in 1966 on the 6 cyl and the V-8 retail option price back then for the 6 cyl was$113.45 the V-8 was $184.02 If the 4spd that was in the car was a 66 mustang version it would fit as a well as the old T-10 with the correct lenght of tailshaft, am not certain off hand but I think the over all length is 24" let me know if you need more helpgood luck and ya gotta love a hot rodder

What does it mean that my 66 pony has a green dot trany?

the '65/'66 C4, was known as the "Green Dot" C4 & has a different shift pattern to the '67/later C4's.

So your C4 tranny is the green dot which is an UPGRADED option. A better tranny better gears and stronger parts and what not, there was also the white dot tranny that was the cheaper or less performance transmission. As far as i understand the white dot was available for better fuel consumption HAHAHA which no one really cared about in 66 anyways.

In '65/'66 it was something like this:
P - Park
R - Reverse
N - Nuetral
White Dot - Starts in 2nd, automatically shifts to 3rd
Green Dot - Starts in 1st, automatically shifts to 2nd and 3rd

How do i remove the transmission from a 2002 v6 mustang? i already followed the instructions in the manual but it seems that the engine and tranny wont come apart. ive already taken all the screws apart.

make double sure all the bolts are out, especiall the torque conv, the tranny is stuck to the dowels that center it, use a prybar and a soft mallet to shake it loose

Check fuse 8 (10 amp fuse) in the under dash fuse panel. Make sure you have voltage to it on both sides of the fuse. This fuse feeds all of the items you listed.

Transmisson wont engage

MAke sure you filled the fluid to the correct level as the converter may be dry & could give false readings on the dipstick. Is the torque conv attached to the flywheel? Is the shifter linkage connected properly? The speedo sensor has nothing to do with the trans engaging as this is a mechanical issue not a electronic one. Hope it helps.

I have a 1991 Ford Mustang GT speedo problem

check the cable for the speedometer at the interconect. the cable is loose somewhere along the length of the cable. one back of he meter, 2, interconnect. 3, transmission case.
make sure the inner cable is square not rounded. if os, you need a new cable.

Speedometer is jumping all-over

You better check the connector to the speedo and cluster, either you bent a pin or damaged the printed circuit, or the connector is not locked properly.
