92 cadillac sedan deville not running what would be the problem?

When you say the starter has power, are you saying it has power on the large post and on the small post when the key switch is in the start position ? Can you jump the terminals and make it crank ?

How do get the engine to crank or turn

check that you have put the small wire on the correct terminal of the starter solenoid. The solenoid will require power from the ignition switch to close the contacts the make the starter spin

Replaced battery for 2001 cadillac deville but not wont turn over ....i have power but just wont crank whats going on?

Electrical problems require tracing from where you have current to where you do not. For example, it could be dirty battery terminals, back chassis ground connection, missing engine ground strap, bad neutral safety switch, bad ignition switch, bad starter solenoid, bad starter field or armature brushes.
See if there is current at the starter solenoid, when you try to crank it, with a test light. They move further upstream if there is not.

How to change a starter in a 1990 cadillac sedan deville?

First, I would determine it is bad. I have a 1990 Cadillac Sedan Deville, and sometimes it doesn't turn over. But, if I toggle the switch a few times or up to 5 times, it starts to turn over and the car starts.

I have the same problem with a 1997 Cadillac Deville.

If you are set on changing it, here is a picture and instructions on how to test:
prev.gif next.gif Starter TESTING Voltage Drop Test Fig. 1: Schematic of a voltage drop test 91052g10.jpg
NOTE: The battery must be in good condition and fully charged prior to performing this test.
  1. Disable the ignition system by unplugging the coil pack. Verify that the vehicle will not start.
  2. Connect a voltmeter between the positive terminal of the battery and the starter B+ circuit.
  3. Turn the ignition key to the START position and note the voltage on the meter.
  4. If voltage reads 0.5 volts or more, there is high resistance in the starter cables or the cable ground, repair as necessary. If the voltage reading is ok proceed to the next step.
  5. Connect a voltmeter between the positive terminal of the battery and the starter M circuit.
  6. Turn the ignition key to the START position and note the voltage on the meter.
  7. If voltage reads 0.5 volts or more, there is high resistance in the starter. Repair or replace the starter as necessary. NOTE: Many automotive parts stores have starter bench testers available for use by customers. A starter bench test is the most definitive way to determine the condition of your starter.
Remember to disconnect the battery and remove the wires from the starter at the hex nut.

Then, remove the 3 or so bolts that hold the starter on using an extension and ratchet if necessary.

Hope this helps.

1996 cadillac deviile want start,I checked starter, relay battery cable and ignition switch.I try the key nothing the only left is PCM and ckp.I think their might be open circuit

First off OBD 2 system which is in your car.will operate in closed situation which means although car may not run properly it will crank over and start as long as spark, fuel and air are present...What I suggest is to first check the voltage of battery..( It sounds like you have already ruled this out)If batterry has checked out good the next step I would do is check your fuses (there is a fuse for the ignition, this is probably blown....) If that checks out ok check the cable that goes from battery to starter making sure connections are tight...If all apears ok I would hook up a remote starter switch to starter followoing mfrs instruction and see if your vehicle cranks....If it does place the vehicle in neutral and try to start normally .. if it starts in neutral or any other gear it is your neutral safety switch.... I would actually try this first because it is a much easier procedure...I hope this fixxes your problem....Good luck!!!

Cadillac 1999 DeVille Battery goes dead after sitting for a few days. Had battery checked and it's good. What should I check?

You should check for voltage draws when the vehicle is off... Disconnect the negative battery termal, Pull dome light fuse, and connect a light or volt meter between the two.

common offenders are alternator diodes. These fail and cause drain.

Then you have to check, circuit by circuit, until you find the offending system.

Also, before doing anything, disconnect negative terminal and see if the battery is still fully charged after a few days...
