Question about 1980 Chevrolet Corvette

1980 Corvette misses and bogs on accereration

I have an excellent condition 1980 corvette with a 305 motor, 59,000 original miles, and original carb. It went from running perfect one day to not so good the next. The problem is that upon acceleration, regardless of how much, the motor instantly misses and bogs. It has no power at all. I have checked all vacuum hoses - no cracks or disconnections, there are new plugs at the correct gap, new wires, distributor & rotor, HEI module, PCV valve, fuel filter is not clogged, carb is getting a good flow of fuel, fuel pump is operational, oil and filter changed, carb has been cleaned and all linkage is operational, fresh higher octane gas,... all of this was in place before the problem started a couple of weeks later. It sounds as though it is a fuel problem but I cannot figure out what it could be. It doesn't seem likely a vacuum issue but I could be wrong. I do all the work on this car and have been through it with a fine tooth comb. Help! Lisa, Fairbanks Alaska

I have cleaned out the carb, how would I keep the floats from sticking or monitoring the flow of fuel to the carb?

Yep it's a quadrajet...looking forward to eventually replacing it with a holley or ? Thanks...I'll dink with it this weekend and hopefully that'll do it. Too bad I can't test drive it until the spring. Gotta love Fairbanks long winter, just ask your friends!

I actually ebayed this car and flew down to Tacoma to get it then had it shipped up. Can't touch good vettes up here for a reasonable price....people are selling garbage for 11,000.00 or more. What a shame. Am looking for a 75 right now...see what I can find. Chevy Dealership???

The way it sounds is the floats in the carb are sticking or getting too much fuel

the best way to check is to take the float out alot of the times they have a pin hole in them and allowing gas to get in and not letting the float to work properly, its been a while since i worked on a quadrajet carb assuming that is what you have,i have one in my shed but it is pouring right now and i can't get to it to tell how to adjust the floats.i have friends that live in fairbanks ,i hope the info helps

The return spring inside of the shifter might be weak or broken, or the tab in the shifter gate slot might have worn out or broken. Remove the shifter base and boot and inspect the slot and tab. (the tab rides inside of the slot). An excellent replacement spring can be found at:

The VIN number will tell you where the car was made, and then you can start searching from there.

1980 corvette radio wont work

Is the radio original equipment or a more recent model? Sometimes newer models have in-line fuses which may be located somewhere between the power source and the radio. Also check to see if power is crossing the fuse, i.e. before and after the fuse.

Where is the fuel filter on a 1978 corvette Rocheste M4MC carb, and how do I install a new one?

it is in the housing where the fuel line enters the carb. unscrew and remove the input fuel line, then unscrew and remove the housing. take note of the direction of the paper filter you remove. here's a page with more info on that car.

1980 corvette

This car does not have a door lock relay. The gray and tan wires go straight from the switch to the door lock motors.
