NEVER use OVERDRIVE when hauling a trailer, unless the trailer is EMPTY and you are on FLAT OPEN HIGHWAY!

When I pulled the pan on my tranny after the thing started slipping, the oil was like mud, I think that was my clutch, The magnet looked like a doughnut. It was from towing a car trailer from Atlanta to Gainesville. Burned it up. Wouldn't shift, slipped like crazy, I would just find another one, don't bother rebuilding. You should be able to find one. Hope this helps.

I have a 2004 gmc ext. Cab 4x4 short box pu gvw is 8100 plusis it legal to pull a 6164 lb 5th wheel trailer????

the gvwr is the calculated weight the the truck can carry in the cab and the bed combined, it is not the towing capacity, the towing capacity can be found in your owners manual. I hope this helps you, good luck !

2000 gmc 4x4 it will not shift into 3rd gear or overdrive

There is a 3/4 clutch pack in the trans that when it fails you loose those two gears. There is nothing you can do other than to pull the trans and do an overhaul . I started rebuilding those back in 1982 when they first came out in the old 700r4. Even though the new 4L60E is all computer controlled, it is still doing the same thing.

If you tow with it and do not push the tow/haul button it will burn the clutches, especially if you are towing a large heavy load.

Sorry for the bad news

Does this vehicle have a tow mode?

In the owners manual it has tips on towing. If the trailer and the horses weigh more than 8000 pounds, drive it with the overdrive shut off

Jimmy doesn't have this, Sierra does and Yukon. If you are towing a trailer put the trans in drive, not overdrive.

Towing capacity of a Ford 250 5.8 L engine

Towing capacity for any vehicle depends on the engine size along with tire size. the towing capacity should be on the ID tag on the driver's side door and will also be in the owner's manual.
