Question about 1998 Ford Ranger SuperCab

1 Answer

Heater hose connections

1998 ford ranger 2.5L replaced the heater control valve but did not mark where I took each hose from. 4 port valve. Where does the pressure hose go in and out of the valve? I believe on the core the right hose is the pressure and the left the return.

1998 ford ranger 2.5L replaced the heater control valve but did not mark where I took each hose from off of the valve. It is 4 port valve.

What valve port does the hose from the water pump connect to on the front of valve? The top or bottom port? What port does the pressure hose connect to going from the valve to the heater core? Top or bottom?

Now, when looking at the 2 heater core pipes from the front on the firewall, is the input pressure line the pipe on the right and the return on the left?

98 ford ranger no heat have changed thermostat water pump heater control valve

Maybe the heater core is plugged or you haven't bled it properly?
If the heater hose returning from the core to the water pump is NOT hot, while the hose going to the heater core from the thermostat area IS hot, then the heater core is plugged probably.
You need to remove the heater hose while cool, from the thermostat area and remove the hose from the water pump area (that's the outlet of the flow thru heater core) AND THEN take a garden hose with p-is-tol grip type sprayer, and blow water back thru the outlet hose out the inlet hose. This will blow any bad plugging material out the way it got in.
Don't apply too much pressure if it is plugged bad. The heater core isn't made to stand 50lbs. water pressure. don-ohio (:^)

Heater blows cold air. I have replaced thermostat,

Not an expert by any means, but i know my ranger.. I had a small leak at the top of my radiator that still cooled the engine but didnt have enough pressure to get to the heater. The heater hoses travel up over the engine and just were not gettin anything to my heater core. That or make sure the heater control valve is operating.

Trying to put a heater core in a 1998 ford ranger and don't know how. Do you have a diagram to go by. step by step. thank you.

Disconnect heater hoses. Remove glove box. Remove cover fro heater core (8mm screws) . Remove parts in way of cover. Replace heater core. reassemble. I would recommend flushing system first. Top off coolant.

Check the gray vaccum line between the firewall and heater control valve for leaks. You can't see all the hose because so run your fingers dowm the line.

Heater control valve leaking 03 ford ranger

let me assume you have a 4 port heater control valve (4 water ports and 1 vacuum line). I have fixed several and they only leak for a short time before the valve completely breaks and you lose all coolant immediately. (not good) The leak is caused by the elbow piece that threads into the control valve. The threads just deteriorate and come apart. this repair is very easy and can be done yourself for under $30 dollars by going to your local auto store and purchasing a new one. Im also going to assume its not a hose you were specific about the valve. I guess if you were in an emergency and needed a quick repair that may or may not work long you could always epoxy or cement the defective piece together but this wouldn't be recommended except in the case that it is (a) not your car and; you dont like the owner:-). I hope this helps
