D4 is the correct gear, When traveling at about 112km/hr (70mph) I usually average around 30mpg with only 2 passengers, If i push it to 130km/hr (80 mph) I usually will average around 20mpg. Have not converted the mpg into kilometers though..

Also, Are you sure its 4wd? I did not think they made odysseys in 97 that were 4wd.

Make sure when you are traveling on the highway to have it in the highest gear there is it will be the first forward gear on the gearshift the one after neural. also check the plugs and wires and air filter. you might have to go to a dealer for the manual but you may be able to get it from a parts store

Does the driving on overdrive mode cause high fuel consumption, because the transmission use the first three ratios mostly?

driving in over drive mode actually is what gives the economy as the engine rpms will be around 300 less than direct drive . Lower rpms = fuel savings
OD should come in around 60 klm/hr and drop out at around 50 klm/hr. When you are accelerating hold the pedal in a set position and watch the rev counter (rpms ) and each gear change you will see the rpms drop and then build back up as the vehicle speed increases At 100klm/hr the revs should be around 3200 rpms or less but if over ( say 3500 rpms) then may be the OD is not coming in. One way to test a box operation is to find a speed shop with a dynomometer and test the gear selections against loads and engine rpms

Why matiz high fuel consumption ?

run fault codes first .Check for faulty o2 sensors and check the air filter is clean. Check fuel pressure in the rail. check for blocked exhaust system (cat converter) check for correct tyre pressures and check the load carried and the speed being driven at . Check that the od is operational and that the motor is not over reving at speed this car in proper operating mode should be around 6ltrs per 100 klm's travelled

How many kilometer per liter for fuel consumptin

Hi, the CRV typically gets 9.5 litres per 100 Km, the gas tank on a CRV is 58L. You should be able to go about 610km on a single tank, but that is a FULL tank to EMPTY. I'd suggest filling up every 500-550km to be safe.

I have a 3s 2000cc egine, the problem is high fuel consumption. Imagin 1lt only going for 6km. Please help.

Hi there,

As you have not stated the vehicle MODEL or Year of Manufacture, I will provide a 'general' solution:

There could be numerous causes for high fuel consumption, but if you have used this amount of fuel in such a short journey, there would have to be leaking fuel somewhere.

However, the only true method to measure "ACTUAL" fuel consumption (disregard trip computer) is:

- Completely fill tank to a pre-determined point inside the fuel tank filler tube.
- Set your cluster Trip Meter to: 0000
- Drive vehicle for 6 - 15km and return back to the same gas station pump used previously.
- Completely fill tank to the same point inside the fuel tank filler tube, where filled previously.
- Note the quantity of litres required to fill to that same point in the filler tube.
- Divide the litres used, by the total Km travelled on your Trip Meter.
- If the value calculates less than 20 (carburettor engine); less than 15 (EFI engine), then consumption is acceptable.

Note: if value is above these numbers, then you have a fuel leak, or a problem with your vehicle's carburettor adjustment. EFI engines can have numerous causes, including electronic sensor faults etc.

Cheers,

I have several questions: Number 1 the initial minutes of my premio (corona) D4 2-litre engine raves at above the 1500 rev per minute but eventually returns to less than 1000 after some minutes;...

George,
1) Yes It is normal for corona Engines to have that high rev when the engine is still cold. It automatically adjusts to the Normal Rev/min when the engine gets warm so don't worry about that.
2) The Buttons are use when you are running on road. PWR means Power meaning that you lock the car in gear Five while sprinting. MNL stands for manual transmission.
3) Econ tries to show you that you are using a higher gear like say 5, therefore your fuel consumption is now being economized and thus low consumption. Actually, its always good if you drive your car with that light on coz it saves on your fuel. It get on automatically.

Don't forget to vote my solution if it was of help to you.

Computer fuel consumption indicator randomly displaying numbers

This is a potential solution but if you are traveling down the highway and take your foot off the gas (or if you are on cruise no gas is required to maintain your speed) then the instant mpg calculation is similar to this 60 MPH / 0.0 GPH so effectively you end up with infinite gas mileage. But because the motor has to idle it's always using a little gas so it puts a very small number for the denominator which ends up giving you a high MPG. I've seen this happen in many makes of cars and I don't think it's anything to worry about.
