Lifter making noise

Sometimes lifters make noise. fixable?

Ive just bought a 1991 Audi 100 2.8 V6. I could hear the lifter noise before I bought the car but I fancied the challenge of fixing it. I have a receipt saying that the engine was flushed 6 weeks ago?? It still looks to have a fair bit of sludge in there to me! I have just changed the oil as to the manufacturers recommendations and the noise is still present, although slightly less noticeable. I have heard the stories that the car needs driving to disperce the oil to where it needs to be and I have just returned from a 100 mile round trip and the noise is still present. I am now going to price up the new lifters and a Haynes Manual and try to rectify this problem. I have read so many posts on the internet all talking of the same problem and I'd love to find the answer so all us Audi drivers can sort out our lifter problems for good! Peace!

The hydraulic lifters depend on small channels that can get clogged. Had lifters replaced and tap remained. Decided not to spend hundreds more once audi mechanic discovered the fix (reopen head and **** oil channel). Changing oil and filter frequently helps quiet the lifter.

Depends, how long between oil changes, how many miles, try and engine flush, sometimes debrise adn sludge will cause a lifter to stick and not move freely causing the tapping noise you hear, if this doesn't fix or quiet the problem it may be to far gone, but if you really love the car get a tear down manual and go to work....put aside a weekend and about 500 dollars it'll be a job

Ford bantum 2004.i had a problem wit noisy hydrolic lifter i replacd them only to find dat they stil making a noise making the patrol motor sound like a diesel motor

I would go to an autoparts store, and purchase some Sea Foam. You can put it in your gas and your oil, and it should clear your sound up if its lifters. I used it, and it worked great for the lifters on my Dakota. They will make noise sometimes when its really cold. Try it out. Hope it helps.

These are common for a lifter noise, the problem is the lifter. They get dirt in them and sometimes dont recover

What would make my lifters tap while ideling at a red light ? sometimes the tap is loud and sometimes you hardly hear it.

It sounds like tired hydralic lifters to me. If the noise was constant it would be a worn out oil pump instead

What is a lister?

LIFTERS. Have a mechanic look at it BEFORE you buy it, you dont want to buy a problem child. there may be oil pressure problems, big $$$

How to stop lifter and or vavle noise in car motor?

Generally if it's being caused by wear you can replace what's worn...rocker arm, lifter , cam etc. If noise just began, sometimes an additive like marvel oil will clean out the lifter and make it quiet, but it takes time...It took time to get that way.Lucas additive sometimes also works for that. But, as I said, if it's from wear you need to replace the worn parts.

Noise motor on 03 santa fe a guy told me it sound like the lifters but i want to be for sure

Hi if your getting a tapping noise on the top of the engine then yes it's the lifters making the the noise but before changing the lifters check that oil pressure is where it's suppose to be and that the oil is circulating and you have a good amount of pressure getting to the lifters if that's ok then replace lifters good luck
