sounds like there is a code in the computer that needs to be pulled.if it keeps blinking it is probably an emission fault that needs attention immediately.the code is needed first to be able to diagnose the problem or you can throw parts and money at it until it might get fixed without the code.
A used engine that may have less mile than yours will cost anyway from $500.00-1,000.00 plus and additional 500-850 more labor to install engine. Here is amy advise if your engine is in good condition I would definitely do the head-gasket job on it. That should come out to be less money and you know what your getting.
