Question about 1985 Chevrolet Corvette

1985 corvette 4+3 trans won't shift linkage jamed

1985 corvette 4+3 transmision shifter hangs up in 2nd gear. Won't shift thru the linkage. Has been freed up before by Corvette Specialitys in Riverside, Ca. They unstuck the linkage but had no answer to fix. Took to have smog test done put on dyno and and they locked it up again. If careful you can shift with out a problem. Need to know what to do to fix. Can't find any parts or assembly replacement. Corvette has 85,000 miles and we are the third owners not sure of what other work has been compeleted. Runs great and seems to be ok when working.
Thanks

I beleive there was a recall or sevice bulletin that had to do with replacing a pin in the tranny.check it out.

1991 Ford F150 won't shift into park or reverse. Will go into neutral and drive, and the linkage at the transmission moves ok

The linkage may be out of adjustment preventing the shifter from moving into reverse or park.
One way to test this is to disconnect the linkage and manually move the lever on the transmision making sure that it can be set into park. Also try moving the lever counting each click from park to low gear to make sure it is clicking into each gear. If this works then the linkage is probably out of adjustment.
On the link cable there is typically a bolt in an oval shaped metal near the transmission shift lever.
1)Detach the shift cable from the transmission shift lever
2)Put the transmision shift lever in the park position, and also the shifter in the cab
3)Loosen the adjustment bolt
4)Reattach the cable to the lever
5)Tighten the adjustment bolt in place
6)Confirm that you can shift through all of the gears
Hope this helps

Transmision stuck in 2nd gear

Either shift linkage or most likely you will
have to pull the trans & replace all the synchros

Other than pulling it out
The trans is fairly easy to do

Ordered a new 65 vette back then
Had it apart all the time, for 8 years
Everything but the body off

1964 c20 chevy p/u 3spd on the column .the shifter gets hung up in 1st and/or reverse when trying to shift to 3rd/4th any pictures available on line @ no cost that shows and tells steering column...

the older column shifters can be a problem, look at where the shifter arms hook to the transmission
there should be some plastic bushings on the end of each arm that nay be worn out and cause this problemtry replacing these bushings first when they are worn they won't align the shifter arms to lighn up for the next gear and the trans will have a tendency to hang between gears

My 2002 neon has auto tranny.... the shifter moves but the cars does not when it is in gear. the car wont even roll while in neutral. What is wrong

Hi.I think the problem will be the linkage between the shift lever and the actual transmision'
Could be as simple as a connecting pin has fallen out
So therefore the car is still in park and won`t roll
Hope i have been of some help

Gears shifter will not engage the gears i think it is the trans linkage where is it located?

it's a cable under car . may be just loose connections. floor shift?

column shift?

check under hood first on driver side where transmision is. look for loose fasteners. then you might have to remove console for floor shift or plastic shrouds if column shift.

2000 Chevy Prizm Lsi 4-speed auto trans. problems

That does sound like a linkage adjustment problem.

If that does not work, I'd try a fluid change and filter. But your diagnostics with pulling on the gear shifter is a pretty good indication of a linkage problem.

Shifter won't shift gears

Have someone look @ linkage on trans. while someone moves shift lever thru the gears. If lever @ trans doesn't move then its in the linkage between the column and trans. (possible clip or pin broken @ linkage jounts). If lever @ trans moves then its a trans. internal prob.

Transmision Shifting Problem

Was the fluid you drained red or black? did it smell like trans or gear oil? With linkage disconnected, could you put trans in park by moving the lever on the side of the unit? Oil condition is likely a separate issue...most "blown" transmissions generally have normal operation of shift, it just dosen't do what you tell it to. two things likely going on are: linkage problem and likely in need of fluid/filter change.
