Sounds like there may be debris in the fuel line. What might be happening is that the debris/dirt/rust is getting pulled up against the fuel filter when you turn over the engine and it stops the car from starting. You could change the plugs and wires easily enough too. If you pull a plug and there is a lot of buildup on it, that might be the problem. You can scrap or burn off the buildup, but for a couple bucks, it's worth just buying new ones. It sounds like you want to do this yourself because you posted this question, but with a nice car like that, why don't you go to a mechanic? I use the Cartalk website to find good, customer-reviewed mechanics and have had great luck.

What a great idea! Because, female or not, mechanics love to drop a few extra dollars on a bill if you have no idea what is going on.

My knowledge of cars is somewhat limited, but what I do know is that if the car is turning over (rrr rrr rrr) then you have plenty of power (electricity). That pretty much rules out the alternator as it would lead to a dead battery type symptom (ie. no rrr rrr rrr).

The O2 sensor might be at fault, but that's probably less likely because 1) it probably wouldn't create a problem until the car was started and 2) the problem is intermitant.

I'd ask the mechanic to check the fuel filter and/or fuel pump. Make sure they check the filter before they tell you that you have to replace the fuel pump. Also, being a 2004, the computer diagnostics might show them what is going wrong.

You might want to post on a BMW specific forum too, like www.bimmerforums.com. Someone there might have more specific experience with your car.

My 2006 bmw 325i doesnt start makes a click noiise when i hit the push start but no light on dash just the radio it complete doesnt start the battery got tested its fine

Certainly sounds like a lack of power in the battery.
Do you have a genuine BMW battery or a cheapie replacement?
Have you tried to jump start the vehicle.
Batteries can seem ok, but when called upon, the power drawn out of them can be insufficient.
Try charging battery and starting on the charger- or just jump start to see what happens

Hi dennis,

It sounds like you have a malfunctioning oil level sensor. Even with the oil level correct, if the oil warning indicator comes on after starting, the sensor is reading incorrectly. I would recommend replacing the sensor with your next oil service. As far as the sluggishness, the sensor operation will not affect that. I suspect that is a different issue.
