Question about 1998 Saturn SL

Starter maybe A few weeks ago I needed a new battery...then for some reason I had trouble starting my car..I purchased it at a car parts place and they installed it for me...a friend of mine said maybe they might have installed the battery inproperly being they are not mechanics. 2 years ago I had to have the starter replaced and got ripped off. Saturn agreed. Anyhow I brought it back and they were of no help. Two certified mechanics both agreed that it was a starter problem due to the fact that when start and stop I was having problems restarting. For some strange reason it stopped doing that yesterday but, I have smell of gas when I start the car...could that be a fuel leak and maybe fuel pump needs replacement if the car has one?

Well, your starter problem seems to have resolved itself (for now!), but as far as the gas fumes, check around the engine compartment looking for evidence of gas (when u can detect the odor). t If nothing visible, look under the car for evidence. Fuel pumps on newer cars are located in the gas tank, so that isn't the issue here. If u can't locate the leak/fumes, have it checked out asap, as this could result in a fire and shouldn' t be ignored.

Is the car engine turning/ swinging when the key is turned. If the engine is cranking then look at the distributor and the spark plugs and engine timing also it is worth a look at the fuel pump and supply to the injectors there should be a valve similar to the wheel valve on the injector bank press the valve with key on you should see fuel spurt out under pressure as the pump will be keeping the injectors under pressure . If the car is not cranking then look at the starter.

I think it's doubtful that your starter is draining the battery. Once your starter is engaged upon start up, it is done with its job, and it is not needed until the next start up. It does sound like your starter is going bad. If all of the electrical parts seem to come on when you trying to start it, it should have plenty enough juice to start it. One possible cheap solution is it could be the starter relay. The relay takes power from your battery and routes it through to your starter. If this isn't working, your starter isn't even getting any juice. I hope this is the problem. I have seen many starters replaced that should not have been because fo a bad starter relay. You would have to Google that info on a Monte Carlo. I could not tell you where it is on any Chevy.

My option is that is that someone wired your wires together at the botton of your clutch..Some theft protection device would be making it do this.....Hope this helps...

Purchased a new battery for 2003 Infiniti G35 6 weeks ago and went to get in my car tonight after not driving it for two days and now it won't start. What is going on?

Sounds pretty simple. If your starter is not at fault. you may want to check the alternator. If the reason for the battery change originally was due to the battery dying then the alternator could be the culprit.

Starting problem

Hello LostLynne.
The most common issue is a bad contact in the starter solenoid.
This solenoid is part of the starter assembly and makes the high amperage battery to starter connection
When you hear the click the solenoid is activating but not completing the battery to starter contact.
If this is an original starter or been on for a long time I would suggest changing the starter assembly.
Also in your under hood fuse/relay panel there is a smaller relay that activates the starter solenoid that should be checked before replacing the starter. Although less common for that to happen it does occasionally cause a problem. Easy to replace too.
If you have further questions please ask me.

Throtle Body?

It takes 7 minute to recharge a battery from a standard start(about 3 seconds) if you are cranking longer than that then yes the wear is occuring to the starter, alternator and battery.
It could be a throttle body leaking or a fuel pressure regulator.

180 milli-amps is way to much draw, ford's limit is 50 milli-amps but typically we usually only see around 20-30. Now when you say fuse 2 is that in the under-hood fuse panel or the interior fuse panel? And if this vehicle is a 2007 it may still be under factory warranty which was 36 months or 36000 miles providing that the add on automatic starter is not causing your draw.Which in that case the people who installed it should be responsible for that.

im having the same problem. I went to one place and they said I needed a new starter. So I took it to another and they said the wires to the starter were not good and needed to be replaced, they put in a new battery also. Then 2 days later it wouldnt start again. So I took it back they diagnosed it and could not find a issue with it. So the guy told me it is something electrical most probably a relay of a sort. A coworker told me to go to a electrical specialist.
