Question about 2005 Ford F-150

Torque setting for center nut of rotor assembly.

I need to know the torque setting for the center nut that holds in the rotor assembly. It is for a 2005 F150 with a 4.6 engine. It is for the front brakes.

Should be 90 to 110 lbs torque

Notes:
  • To prevent damage to the spindle during removal, remove adjusting nut locking key from spindle keyway under adjusting nut prior to nut removal.
  • A slight movement of the nut will loosen the locking key so that a magnet can be used for removal.
  • During the front wheel bearing adjustment procedure, align the closest two holes in the wheel bearing adjusting nut with the center of the spindle keyway slot.
  • Advance the nut to the next hole if required. To ensure proper wheel retention, install adjusting nut locking key in alignment with spindle keyway and insert into locknut holes.
  • The double humped portion must be completely seated and flush with the locknut assembly.
  1. Raise and support front of vehicle.
  2. Remove wheel and tire assembly.
  3. Remove lug nut stud retainer washers, then the locking hub assembly.
  4. Remove snap ring from end of spindle shaft.
  5. Remove axle shaft spacer, needle thrust bearing and bearing spacer.
  6. Remove cam assembly, thrust washer and needle thrust bearing from wheel bearing adjusting nut.
  7. Remove the adjusting nut lock key, then the nut.
  8. Remove the rotor and replace the bearings, races and seal as necessary.
  9. Torque nut to 35 ft lb while rotating hub and rotor assembly.
  10. Back off adjusting nut 1/4 turn, then torque nut to 16 inch lbs.
  11. Align nearest hole in adjusting nut with center of spindle keyway slot. If necessary, advance nut to the next hole.
  12. Install locknut needle bearing, thrust washer and cam assembly.
  13. Install bearing thrust washer, needle thrust bearing, axle shaft spacer and snap ring.
  14. Install locking hub assembly and retainer washers, then the wheel and tire assembly.
  15. Ensure wheel endplay on spindle is 0.000-0.003 inch.

How to assemble a front wheel bearing on a 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4


The front wheel bearing is a hub and bearing assembly. To remove you will.... 1. Remove the tire 2. Remove the axle nut. You can put a punch in the fins of the rotor to keep the assembly from turning while you rmove the nut. You can can do the same thing when you torque the axle nut. 3. Remove the caliper and rotor. 4. Unplug the abs sensor if equipped. 5. Remove the three bolts that hold the hub to the knuckle. 6. Rmove the hub. If you need torque specs let me know and i'll get them for you. It is absolutely critical that you torque the axle nut to the proper spec!

I just did the wheel bearings on my 1985 ford f 150 2 wd i need to find out what the torque is for the nut that holds my wheel bearings and brake rotor on thank you very much


  • There is not a torque speck for that.

  1. Just thread the adjuster into the spindle and tighten real good with a ratchet.
  2. Then rotate the wheel forward to seat them bearings real good.
  3. Give it another tighten then back that adjuster nut off 1/8 of a turn.
  4. Then put the nut lock washer on over the adjuster nut and put a cotter pin in the hole.


  • Your lug nuts are torqued at 100ft lbs though.

How to change front hub assembly on 05 mustang


Remove tire/wheel. (5 nuts)
Seperate the brake pads just a little; pry apart with a screw driver. Easier to remove and replace later.
Remove caliper/brake assembly (2 bolts). Do NOT remove brake line.
Remove brake rotor (there may be a retainer clip or two that needs to be removed and discarded.
Remove black center cap (after reading warning on the cap).
Remove large spindle nut.
Slide bearing/hub assembly off the spindle. (If stuck, you may have to tap it with a hammer. It's a straight smooth shaft.

Reassemble in reverse order.
Tighten the nut to the correct torque spec. I don't know what it is, but it's pretty high... 200ft-lbs? The torque is important because it sets the preload on the bearing balls and races. Too low or torque will cause early bearing failure.

'06 F-150 2wd front rotor needs replaced, brake pad worn off got into rotor; otherside not damaged 7-lug rotor is integral hub/rotor. Can pick-up rotor and hub nut tomorrow 4/3/11. Info I grabbed...


Hi, if you have the right socket in a half inch drive with a breaker bar, you can get it off. Cheat if you have to. The new hub will probably not have bearings, so you will reuse yours with a little new grease. I don't think there is any kind of dust seal. There should be a large washer on the outside just under the axle nut. The final torque isn't critical. You can use your weight multiplied by the length of the breaker bar to estimate. I recommend you replace the pads on the other side too, since they come in sets anyway. Please let me know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

TO REMOVE FRONT WHEEL BEARING.YOU NEED TO SAFELY RAISE SUPPORT VECHICLE ON JACK STANDS.MAKE SURE SITTING ON LEVEL SOLID GROUND.BEFORE RAISING VECHICLE OFF GROUND YOU NEED TO LOOSEN HALF SHAFT AXLE NUT JUST A LITTLE BECAUSE WHEEL IN THE AIR HARD TO LOOSEN AXLE NUT WHEN YOU HAVE HOLD THE WHEEL WHILE LOOSEN THE AXLE NUT WHICH IS TORQUE ON ABOUT 200 FT LBS.USING A SIX POINT AXLE SOCKET SOCKET SIZE COULD BE 34 OR 35 METRIC 1/2 INCH SOCKET.YOU NEED 1/2 INCH BREAKER BAR.ONCE YOU LOOSEN AXLE NUT A LITTLE THEN RAISE VECHICLE THEN REMOVE WHEEL.THEN FINISHING REMOVING AXLE NUT AND WASHER.THEN REMOVE THE CALIPER FROM THE STEERING KNUCKLE AND SUPPORT IT ASIDE USING A PIECE OF WIRE.REMOVE BRAKE ROTOR.THEN REMOVE THE 3 HUB BEARING ASSEMBLY BOLTS. Procedure for front wheel bearing (hub assembly) replacement


jack up vehicle wheel in question and install jack stand.remove wheel. Unbolt 2 caliper bracket bolts and pry caliper assembly up off brake rotor and hang off to the side with bungee.remove rotor . remove large axle nut. From the back of the hub remove hub bolts most commonly 15mm.Using a slide hammer style wheel puller the hub can be removed. if all you have is a big hammer hit the hub back and forth side to side until it can be removed. Bolt in new hub assembly and torque bolts.Install axle nut and torque. install rotor and caliper. reinstall wheel and torque.

Spindle nut torque spec on a 2004 F-150


u DON'T torque this!! tighten the nut while spinng the rotor, then back off untiol it is free, then tighten it down until it seats tight, then turn another 1/8" tighter, that is it, any tighter u burn up the the wheel bearings
