The hole in the pedal arm is for the cruise control. There is a plastic plug that needs to be in place to turn off the brake lights. They should be available at any dealer - there is also one for the clutch pedal arm in manual trans. These are required for the cruise as well as to turn off the brake lights. I bet that several will now be able to have their cruise back.

I have the same problem with my 2000 S10, Is the manufacturer trying to get us killed? I also replaced the brake light switch, adjusted it, and it worked for about a week. I did notice a couple of times that I was getting out of the truck that I got shocked off the door. I talked to an electrician and he said there is possibly a loose ground wire or a wire shorting out somewhere. This is a dangerous situation driving with disfunctional brakelights. It should be a factory recall! Before someone's family ends up dead because of it. I will keep searching for solutions. Thanks.
