Question about 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass
Here is the scenario. I bought the car and noticed on the freeway it started to overheat (almost got to the red), I turned the heat on, it didn't help. I then turned the A/C on, this caused the secondary fan to kick on and cool down the engine. I replaced the Coolant Temp Sensor which has helped but still gets up to the 3/4 mark before secondary fan kicks in. The primary fan however doesn't work. I replaced the relay (because it was bad) and this did not solve the problem. I bypassed the relay the fan does work however it doesn't come on while the engine is operating. I believe it to be electrical (somewhere) I am just not quite sure what to check next. Any Suggestions? i have a 1995 oldsmobile cutlass, it is running hot had the thermostatt water pump, and the hose replaced still is running hot, somewhat, the low coolant light is on again and coolant fumes are coming in through the vents.....HELP what is the problem..do i have a bad heater coil and do i need a radiator also ..i dont want to play process of elimination with this car i am a woman and i am just not rich...
If coolant can be detected inside the car, you need to replace the heater core. After it's replaced, the low coolant light should not come on after the heater core is replaced, and the system refilled. If it does, you need to check further. Go w/ the heater core for now, as it will fog up the inside of the car, and become a safety issue.
