I have a 2001 Saturn and have the same problem. Any solutions???

My daughters car has the same problem. I already replaced the temp sensor because the cooling fans werent coming on soon enough in the summer, now this. What a PITA these cars are! And trying to find someone to work on a Saturn is about impossible! There are no dealers close to me and the last one I had it to charged me a grand to diagnose and replace a faulty gear position switch. What a joke.

You might have carbon build up on the throttle plate, take your breather off, spray the heck out of it with some carb spray and also down in the IAC really good. The when you start it, you will have to floor it until all the black smoke is gone. Then take it out on the highway as you are in a Nascar race.
Also your egr valve might be stuck open, and even a intake vacuum hose leak. you EGR being stuck open with cause you a rough or if any take off. Take the EGR off and check it for carbon build up also, if so try to just scrape it off. If thats not possible, youll have to replace the EGR valve, those on that car vary around 130.

There are more than one temp sensor on these cars. You need to get a diagnostic reading on it. Most part stores will do the diagnostic check for free because they want to sell you the part, rather than the dealer. So get your reading then replace. I have had 2 different heat sensors go out on mine. Also if your not sure how to replace autozone has a fix it your self section after picking the part go to the bottu and click on fix it your self. A free repair guide. If not purchase a Chilton and go for it. Those books are great.

I have the same problem with my 1993 Saturn SCII. The only way to restart the car is to sink the accelerator all the way to the floor when starting (if it starts at all). It is with my mechanic right now. I have been searching for solutions and came across 3 very probable solutions:

ECTS (PCM temperature sensor) check first
TPS (throttle position sensor)
IAC (idle air control)

When cold starts but start, peddle to floor, rev a minute then it idles but at times dies when accelerating from a stop. Raw gas smell present and puff of blue smoke when it starts.

have you checked the cylinder compressions as backfire and blue smoke can be a symptom of low compression , either rings or valve seats but would need a dropdown test to be sure

Please help!!! My Saturn suddenly started stalling yesterday, and dies when I come to a complete stop! Anyone know whats going on here?

it could be one of 2 things the first one is the CPS that is located behind the starter the other one is an intake gasket but it sounds more likely to be the CPS

Idle not stable. engine dies off when i turn my sterring full swing.

For the idle not stable, should be problem with the ignition system (high-tension line or plugs) or fuel supply & air supply. please both systems. For the engine stops at full turn, when come for the full turn position the engine gets over because of your 1st problem the engine can stop. Also some times the pressure release valve stuck, the second problem can be come.

96 Saturn SC1 (automatic): b 4 installing (CPS) crankshaft position sensor...she ran, rough idle and the moment she's put in gear, she stalls-out. I shimmed the sensor, she runs OK, but...

If it ran beautiful I don't see why you installed CPS. ???

The CPS and CAS should only be replaced if the car is stalling or shorting out. I just changed the CAS on my 95 Talon but only because it was cutting off like I turned the key off.

If the only thing you did was change the CPS then it's not lined up right. Every car is different but the CPS usually has to be aligned.

Have 95 saturn engine fan not running will idle

The engine fan is a 12 volt DC motor in a housing attached to the radiator.
Unplug the fan and run two wires from the battery to the fan plug connections, if it runs the fan is good and you need to look next to the temperature sensor which tells the fan to turn on due to engine heat. If fan does not turn on with direct electricial connection then you can buy a replacement at advance, autozone, or on ebay motors. Note apply power to the fan's connector, not to the car wiring harness. If your fan is good I believe the there are two termperature sensors screwed into the driver's side of the engine head. They look similar but have different electrical connectors.

Car dies when you put it in gear

I would check your MAF and the IAC.  Try cleaning your Mass Air Flow sensor which is in the tube that takes air from the air filter to the throttle body (you will see that it is plugged in).  Clean it with some cleaner that says it's safe for a MAF.  If it's not that and what I am leaning towards would be your IAC valve.  The idle air control valve is located on your throttle body and is normally attached with two screws.  I would start with the MAF just because it's cheaper but I'm leaning towards the IAC.  Let me know if you have any other questions.  Thanks for an honest rating and for using FixYa!
