Battery not charging after starter burnout then put new one in!

Ok so i had a starter the i had alot of problems with so fist off the wire runing from the soliod to the ignition decided to quit and not work so we ran another wire runing from the soliod to a door bell switch and then a other wire from the switch to the fuse box, so that worked the very best untill one day i was driving down the road and the pinion stuck out on me while driving so i shut the car off and we walked away from the car and then all we hear is it start by itself and the pinion was stuck in the flywheel by the sound of it. So i so i turned the kay so it was off and it was still trying to start itself so i turned it on and let the starter burnout and i never shut that car off ontill i went home that night, Got new starter put it on turned the car on and there was no lights where my speedomator is which is digital, and then driving down the road i lost my lights stero wipers, etc... So i bought an new altanator and put that on and still wasent charging, Whats the problem experts!

yes because that is what tells the alternator to charge

  • james lee Nov 12, 2008

age and if it had a voltage spike that could fry it

  • james lee Nov 12, 2008

that would be the only other thing that would cause a no charge situation that i could think of at this moment ,but if i think of anything else i will let you know

Starter wiill not even engage turned the key on and nothing ran fine when I parked it and got up in the morning and wont even tur n over. Brand new battery

Hmm, possible problems:
- starter or starter solenoid defective.
- neutral switch or wiring thereto defective. Shift selector has to be in Park or Neutral to start. Sometimes brake pedal has to be pressed also for starter to turn.
- remote starter system defective (if you have this) This would be hard to diagnose.
I would first confirm if the starter works by putting 12V directly from positive pole on battery to positive connector on starter solenoid (use jumper cable, and wear goggles in case of massive sparking when you accidentally touch ground.)

WHAT CONDITION ARE YOUR BATTERY CABLES ? THEY MAY SEEM OK, BUT SOMETIMES REPLACEMENT IS NECESSARY ! BATTERY TERMINALS MUST BE CLEANED, SMEAR SOME VASOLINE ON TERMINALS BEFORE MOUNTING THEM, BESURE TERMINALS ARE TIGHT !!! THE (NEGATIVE) CABLE OR GROUND IS VERY IMPORTANT ! A GOOD CONNECTION IS PARAMOUNT !!! INSPECT STARTER/SOLONOID CONNECTIONS, THEY MUST BE CLEAN, PROPERLY CONNECTED , TIGHT !!! TIGHT IS TIGHT, TOO TIGHT IS BROKE !!! MAKE SURE BATTERY IS IN GOOD,CLEAN CONDITION, FULLY CHARGED !!! YOU DID REPLACE THE STARTER WITH A NEW SOLONOID I HOPE ! ITS THIS ELECTRO-MAGNET THAT INGAGES THE STARTER INTO THE FLYWHEEL TO CRANK THE ENGINE . THEY WORK TOGETHER ! TAPPING ON THE STARTER TELLS ME, POSSIBLE LOOSE CONNECTION, EITHER INSIDE OR OUTSIDE SOLONOID . ALTERNATOR PROBLEM ? TAKE TO AUTOPARTS STORE, HAVE THEM CHECK BOTH THE BATTERY & ALTERNATOR . ITS FREE ! CHECK THE ALTERNATOR BELT FOR WEAR, WHETHER ITS TIGHT, LOOSE, ETC., A WORN OR LOOSE BELT WILL SLIP, NOT ALLOWING THE ALTERNATOR TO DO ITS JOB, CHARGING THE BATTERY !!! ONE MORE THING, ITS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE ENGINE TUNED-UP, ESPECIALLY BOTH AIR & FUEL FILTERS, SPARK PLUGS & PLUG WIRES SHOULD BE REPLACED AS WELL, THEY DO WEAR OUT !!! DISTRIBUTOR CAP & ROTOR NEED ATTENTION ALSO, REPLACE THEM ! BACK TOO YOUR SRARTER/SOLONOID, SOMETIMES EVEN NEW ELECTRICAL PARTS GO BAD, IT HAPPENS ALOT, THEY COME FROM MEXICO, CHINA, ETC., NEED I SAY MORE ???

Honda crv 04' key won't turn over & I'm stranded

if your battery isnt dead (try boosting it) then check to make sure the car is in park all the way and try again if nothing happens you need a new starter. alot of people dont put the shifter all the way back to park and that keeps it from starting.

I have a 92 svx with a starting problem with the starter . i put new batt, pos, neg ,wires and 3 new starters . when i try to start the car the siliniod starts clicking than the car will start sometimes fist...

Shift it into neutral and try. If it starts, the neutral safety switch needs to be adjusted. Some have made a starter bypass mode using a relay feeding the started directly from the battery. Check out Subaru-svx.net

My 2006 carolla want start, just clicks. I had battery load tested it is ok.put remam starter on,but car still clicks.no corrosion on. Cables.chould d reman starter be bad.

If this was happening before you changed the starter, it's very unlikely both old and new starter have the same problem. If battery is fully charged and it's still happening, look for a starter relay. It provides high current direct to starter through a fairly heavy wire. It could be on the starter itself or remotely mounted under the hood somewhere. Follow the heavy wire(s) from the battery (+) terminal.

Mercedes vito 110cdi starter motor problems. only when the van

Hi as it starts with a jump start, i would rule out a starter motor problem, i am taking it that what you mean by a jump start is your using a donor battery rather than pushing the van, so possible causes are (1) battery discharging due to a light left on, or the alarm system draining the battery or something similar, (2) alternator not charging the Battery, when you turn the ignition key does the ignition light come on, does it go off when the engine starts?
