Question about 1997 Cadillac Catera

1 Answer

Climate Control, Cigarette Lighter, Heated Seats, etc not working

My 1997 has a slight problem the climate control does not work and when I try to replace the fuse it pops again. I have checked to see if there is a coin or a piece of metal causing the fuse to pop but nothing was found. Now every so often the interior lights don't come on. I would like to get this fixed as winter is coming and would enjoy having heat. I had a theory if ti was an issue with the relay center next to the battery? And if so which fuse would I replace under there? And lastly how do I get that cover off? That is if that could possibly be the issue. Thank you for your help!

You have a short circuit. Replacing a fuse in the under hood fuse/relay box will not fix this. Look on the lid of the fuse box that the blown fuse is in and it should have a diagram of what fuse protects what circuit. This will tell you where to look for the short (radio, power seats, windshield wipers, etc.). After determining what this fuse protects you can unplug each component one at a time and install a fuse after each one. If the fuse blows again plug that component back in and do the next one. When the fuse doesn't blow then you will know where the short is . Good luck.

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Heater

the heater core is removable from the climate control unit. The climate contriol unit has to be removed to replace it. The A/C system must be evacuated and lines removed as well as the dash, to access the climate control unit. The steam is coming from a leaking heater core.

2003-2006 computer the same to use

To start with, you didn't mention which computer you are talking about. WHAT 2003 comuter and WHAT 2006 computer? What are the part numbers and calibration codes on the computers in question? If the part numbers and calibration codes are the same, then they are the same. However, I think it very unlikely.

Automotive computers are kind-of like cell phones...they are out-dated and obsolete before you can walk out of the store with them.

They also vary from vehicle to vehicle built within the SAME year, depending on how the vehicle is equipped (engine size, transmission type, 2-wheel drive, 4-wheel drive, automatic climate control or manual climate control, heated seats, heated mirrors, Power windows, automatic suspension, etc., etc.).

Heated and cooled seats quit working. won't work on either driver's or passanger's seats. checked the fuses and relays and they are all ok. what's wrong?

Remove fuses 10 and 11 in the underhood junction box. Leave out for 5 minutes then reinstall. If the seats start working your Zephyrs dual climate control seat module will need replaced.
