Okay so, When I start the tracker it starts fine, but when I put it in reverse, it will back up. But once I've backed up and stopped, the car stalls and the rpms still rev like crazy. After about 10 seconds or so (feels like an hour when I could be in harms way since I can't move!) it will kind of buck forward. Once I'm driving, it keeps reving really hard as I step on the gas. Once I get to stop sign at the end of my road, I stop and it stalls again. Also, in the past few days it's been reving but I can't go any faster, it acts like I'm in neutral. Yesterday, my speedometer wouldn't work until I took a back road and hit a bump. Speedometer is working now. So I've rambled, and I need help! Tracker details: 2001, 2.0 L engine
Sounds like a transmission problem. My car was doing that and it turns out it had a transmission fluid leak that had led to major transmission damage. The bad news: the entire transmission had to be rebuilt.

Feb 11, 2006 - engine dies when shifting into reverse or drive ... After it dies it starts right up and idles fine in park or neutral. ... these ignition items because you weretrying to cure the stalling, or, did the stalling occur after you replaced these items? ...The only thing that kept the car running was adjusting the Idle screw up.

Just to give an update on my car - I've been having an issue with the car stalling when moving from Park into Reverse or Drive (I have automatic). ... I have been playing with the idle advance trying to get more ... I put in the remainder of the AT fluid I had on hand and the car never died on shifting after that.
i have a 2001 tracker 2.0 engine it did the same thing it run good but when i cut off i wud have to wait about 10 minutes and it wud start back up i put a new camshaft position sensor on it and its ok now the sensor cost me 289.00 dollars its easy to put on takes maby 5 minutes if u put that sensor on it u wont have anymore problems
If lurches when going forward and requires extra throttle, but reverses okay, it due to breakage of the valve body spring. All ZF HP-series automatics have this problem. Have a qualified Jag shop (independent is okay) replace the spring with the improved unit. If you wait too long the transmission will fail completely.
