2006 Ford Fusion inside door handle stopped working

The inside door handle on my 2006 Ford Fusion SEL no longer opens the door. The outer door handle still works. When the problem first happened, I tried opening the door and there was a "pop" and now the handle will not open the door.

ME too! You described the problem perfectly. Is this a fuse error? Or has there been a recall on this issue?

    Thank you,

    DD

I have the same problem.....Started with driver door you can pull the lock and open the door but that too will finally brake off. I now have 3 broken (driver, both back passengers) I called my dealer and the handle itself is around $30 each and then the total labor is around $180-$220. I have seen several post for this problem there should be a recall on it!!!!

Rear passenger inside door handle will not open door, unless you press on the panel. It appears that the clip or bolt that holds the mechanism in place has let go. The car is at the Ford dealer for repair.

I also have the same problem. Rear inside handle on driver side broke.

  • c5cguru May 01, 2009

These plastic "chrome" interior door handles are JUNK! Mine broke on the driver's door at 42,000 miles. Why is Ford not replacing these for free for all of us? What a joke!

  • Anonymous May 18, 2009

I have the same problem. Driver's side inside door handle broke 2 days ago. I have to roll the window down so I can reach and open door with the outside handle. That is poor quality and also seems bit of a safety issue.

same problem here, I found there is a plastic mechanism in the latch area that breaks somehow, i think ford needs to address this issue. should recall and provide free replacement.

ford WILL NOT DO ANYTHING for you, I had and still have an issue with the tranny and Ford did NOTHING for me so dont expect miracles from them. That's why I'll never buy another Ford again

The plastic door handle is broken.
You will need to get a replacement door handle.
Go to http://www.flickr.com/photos/gtppilot/sets...57607539089979/
This should help. It is a set of photographs and instructions to do the job of replacing the handle.

Good luck.

There have been quite a bit of comments posted regarding our Ford Fusion inside door handle has stopped working. If anyone has had the same or similar experience with their door handle/s, please access this website or another comment corner and post your comment or experience. The more postings there are the better chance of a case being filed against Ford Manufacturer or a RECALL being implemented for this issue. It is quite unfair and unsafe that so many of the same issues are happening to so many of us and that this cost is being generated out of our own pockets for their poor quality workmanship of this vehicle.

Yes this is an issue for me as well! They quoted me at $133 a door handle and I need to get both the one on the drivers side and the back seat driver's side replaced! And I called Ford Customer Service and they said they have never heard of this happening and will not repair it for free. I agree we should post as many as we can so the Ford Manufacturer can repair this for no cost

Okay, I think there is something going on with the door handles as well...my drivers side handle is broken but still able to use it and the back passenger door is broken as well. When I put it in drive or use the remote key to lock doors it's sounds like it's triple locking.

    ANOTHER PROBLEM.......

I was driving on a toll road with cruise control on going 70mph and all of a sudden I lost acceleration (the wrench symbol came up on the dash) luckily I was able to get off on an exit with a slow coast (high idiling) . I called a friend and he told me to shut the car off and the computer would reset. I was able to drive to a Firestone and they did detect error (P2100) something to do with powertrain control module which might need to be calibrated. They printed out a TSB and told me to take it to Ford. Ford service advisor told me they could't do anything utill the check engine light came on. THANKS FORD!

yup, mine too! 2006 Ford Fusion SE (4 door). 1st the chrome started to bubble at the break point, then a couple weeks later, the plastic door handle cracked at the seam enough to where the assembly is BROKEN. The door handle wont close back to full closed position. Using the key FOB wont lock the driver door now. So, I had to order this plastic assembly....$75 bucks and I have to do the repair myself. There is a nice photo instruction guide online of how to do this. Perhaps you should log this through NHTSA b/c of the driver door safety/security concern.

The exact same thing happened on my 2007 Fusion driver's side door handle. The back part of the handle lever that allows the lock to work and opens the door has broken off.

  • CT Al Sep 10, 2011

I own a 2009 Fusion and just a few days ago I had the same thing happen. The interior, drivers door handle stopped working. I have to roll down the window to use the exterior door handle.
I've never owned a vehicles that did that. I had 4 Nissans Altimas prior to the Fusion. Never had anything remotely happen like this. A recall is is in order on this problem.

I own a 2008 Ford Fusion SEL V6 and I am experiencing the same issue with the door lock. My driver side door will not open from the inside. I am also experiencing the message board beeping and saying "compass data error" and "compass can not be found" everytime I change directions. Very annoying. I have contacted Ford through email. Will update when I receive a reply.

Either the linkage connected to the handle has come off, or the piece on the handle inside has broken. You will need to remove the panel from the door and repair or replace the handle.

It sounds like the connecting rod popped out of its plastic connector. Pull the door panel off and check both ends of the rod. It must be unhooked at one end or the other.

2006 Ford Fusion. Left front door inside handle

This link is from the handle to the latch. The door panel has to be removed in order for this problem to be fixed. The linkage is inside the door panel, it is a small diamater metal rod called a link. If you do the job yourself be careful not to break the door panel. In a shop, the labor is 1 hour for the job & if any, parts will be a seperate charge.
