Question about 2001 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

2001 jetta thermostat light blinking and beeping

I have a 2001 Jetta. The last two nights I have left work at 9:30. It has not been below freezing either night. I get in the car, let it idle for a minute or two. When I drive off, after a few yards, the thermostat starts to blink and beep. Then, after a few blocks, it stops.Should I be worried?
If this matters, I had the oil changed a few weeks ago and they topped off the fluids.
Your thoughts? Should I be worried? Am I about to blow up? OK, I know I won't blow up, but I don't want to be stranded either.

I have the exact same problem. And it usually only happens in the morning. The car runs just fine and the flashing thermostat light only stays on a couple blocks.

Check your cooling system for antifreeze. Also check for any leeks from the radiator, hoses and water pump. If they all check out to be alright check or replace the water tempreture sensor. Hope this helps to solve the problem.

My 96 jetta gets hot & beeps a lot during stop & go traffic

your anti freeze is worn out and corrosion has built up and is clogging/blocking flow, solution is to drain radiator, fill with water and radiator flush (found in auto parts store) follow directions on flush bottle, change thermostat while system is empty and refill with new anti freeze mix. for more detailed help suggest a chilton's manual for your car available at auto store around$25 and guides ou through most repairs

Jetta overheats when on highway

Yes, the flush and new anti-freeze well help greatly. i would also inspect tech thermostat and water pump as well. replace both if found to be defective.

check the operational value of the cooling fans as well. they should cycle in intervals and, run when the AC is activated.
