Question about 1998 Ford Expedition

1 Answer

Wipers don't work

I put my 1998 Ford Expedition in the shop because my heater core needed to be replaced. After I got my truck back the A/C Windows and wipers didn't work. I took it back and now everything works except the wipers. Can't get them to turn on at all.

I would suspect they don't have the connector to the switch plugged all the way in, take it back and make them fix it, they created the problem, stand your ground on this one, heater core jobs cost big bucks!

Replacing a heater core in a ford expadition

Replacing this heater core is not fun, the entire dash must be removed and the a/c drained, this is so you can access the environmental station and remove it from the truck, then you can change the heater core, if you are not comfortable with this level of work I suggest a good local repair shop. I also recommend factory replacement heater core, the aftermarket heater core connection pipes are sealed with an o-ring and compression, the factory original is solidered completely, if you are going that far you may as well put in something that is solid, not pressed. Hope this helps, let me know.

If you smell antifreeze it may be 3 possibilities: 1. you may have a leaking hose/hose connector , or water pump. 2. your heater core is bad and needs replaced. Unless you know what you are doing I would highly suggest taking to dealer for heater core replacement. The dash and steering colum has to be removed to get to the heater core. This is not an easy job believe me (about-900-1200 job). If you have your heater core replaced then also replace the climate control door. This is good preventative maintenance and also a a dollar saver. I would have a pressure check run on your radiator as a first thought. All you may have is a bad hose and that can easily be replaced.

How to replace heater core in 98 ford expedition

Heater core is a lot of work, but not extremely technical. You do have to remove the console, if applicable, and most of the passenger side dash materials, until you can get to all the small bolts on the bottom of the black blower unit. Beware of all the blend doors, they have to go back in the right places!. Then, to get the old core out, you may want to cut the metal tubes of the heater core, so you can work loose the hose connections to fit the new one. Strongly recommend Ford OEM replacement core, about $110, for fit. Also check closely the bottom of the blend door axle for cracks, you may want to replace it (about $35) while you are there. Local A/C shop with good reputation quotes $350 labor for this job. Good luck!

1988 Ford Exppedition heater in the front will not work

I ASSUME THIS IS A 98, THIS PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY A PART CALLED AN "AIR TEMPERATURE CONTROL BLEND DOOR ACTUATOR MOTOR" THIS MOVES A DOOR BETWEEN THE COLD AIR FROM THE AC AND THE HOT AIR FROM THE HEATER CORE, YOU WILL NEED TO REPLACE THAT ACTUATOR. .

Ac and heater not working. New Heater core and

You need to but a scanner on the computer and activate the AC. If it does not activate you may have a bad PCM. Also if the pressure in the AC is low it will not run. Also you have a AC relay in the engine fuse box.

Now for the bummer part. I have this same truck. Replaced heater core and I didnt get the blend door quite on track and it jammed. I had to take the dash off again. Also your center heat control may be bad.

I don't think these two problems are related. Even without AC your heat should work. Do you have rear climate control also. See if that works. If it does you may have a jammed door for the dash area
