Jacking points on all Jeep vehicles

c17hydro_1.gif

Your Jeep was supplied with a jack for emergency road repairs. This jack is fine for changing a flat tire or other short-term procedures not requiring you to go beneath the vehicle. Do not attempt to use the jack on any portions of the vehicle other than specified by the vehicle manufacturer. Always block the diagonally opposite wheel when using a jack.

Supporting the front of the vehicle with jack stands placed under each frame rail

A more convenient way of jacking is the use of a garage or floor jack. You may use the floor jack at the specified points in following the illustrations.

Never place the jack under the radiator, engine or transmission components. Severe and expensive damage will result when the jack is raised. Additionally, never jack under the floorpan or bodywork; the metal will deform

Lift points on chassis for a floor jack

I use exactly the same the jacking points as I would use with the factory scissor jack. They are reinforced to handle the load. You'll find these point marked with triangle stamped into the rail and in your owner's manual.

How difficult is it to replace a rear strut on a 98 chevy cavalier

They are not difficult to do if you have the right tools or you buy the right struts. If you buy the quick strut like Advance has it is just taking bolts off. If you are only replacing the strut itself you will need a tool to compress the spring in order to replace the strut cartridge.

In the truck you will find 2 or 3 usually 13 mm nuts. Remove the wheel and up two of the lug nuts back on the drum. put a floor jack under the drum to take the tension off the strut. remove the nuts in the trunk and the bolt at the base of the strut assembly. carefully lower the floor jack and remove the strut assembly. If you don't have the spring compressor take the assembly to a shop and pay them to do it. If they are decent they won't charge more than 10-15 each.

It will be easier if you have someone hold the new strut assembly up in place while you go into the trunk and figure tighten the nuts. use the floor jack to raise the suspension up to the strut and replace the lower bolt. Tighten everything up to specs and replace the wheel. When you are done it is imperative you have the car aligned. You don't want ot chew up your back tires because it is out of align as it always is after replacing struts. (you move the struts to align)

Hope this helps

Motor mount on 95 Cavalier

Depends on which one you are replacing? If you are replacing the upper one on the belt end of the engine, yes it's on the passenger side and it is fairly easy to change. You need to jack up the engine with a floor jack and a woodblock to change it.

Motor mounts

get a piece of wood just big enough to put on the oil pan and put just a little pressure with a floor jack to lift up the motor and take pressure off the mounts. Next loosen the bolts, but dont pull them out just yet, and adjust the floor jack to the point the bolts come out with a little or no effort.
