Question about 1985 BMW 3 Series
When I turn the key in the ignition, I hear a loud clicking sound coming from the vacinity of the driver's side engine compartment. Listening, it sounds as though it is eminating from beneath the brake master cylinder. It has always been sluggish in cold weather. Apart from the clicking sound, there is nothing else to note except that the engine doesn't start. Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted.
The clicking sound id probably your starter solenoid. Tis solenoid is actually a relay that connects your starter to the battery so the starter can turn the engine over to get it started.
Try knocking the starter with a hammer, (not real hard, just kinda medium) and see if that makes a difference I suspect your starter is going bad.
Any indication of prior problems with starting?????
