would the 4x4 light come on if the motor is stuck, because the light does not come on at all when you turn the switch to 4x4.

I click on 4 wheel drive and nothing happens.

I have the same problem. When I start the truck the self diagnostics lights up both the 4wd low and 4wd high so I know the lights are working, however, when I select 4wd nothing happens.

My 2006 FX4 is doing the same thing. Turn the key and 4WH and 4WL lights up and then goes off. Then switch to either H or L and no light indicator or engagement of 4X4 ? Any Ideas ?

I had same problem with 4x4 not engaging (during 1rst snow of course!) Went under truck and smacked the engagement motor on transfer case(located right under drivers seat on transfer case small black motor housing) and now seems to work fine.Plan on shifting in and out of 4h once a week to keep motor fresh.Hope this will help. 2006 f150 crew cab lariet

The motor for the four wheel drive engagement on the transfer case is notorious for sticking, try pulling it out and then operating to see if it works.

You will need to get under the truck, but pulling it out is easy

SOURCE: 1994 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer, not going in to Four Wheel Drive.

could be a bad 4wd actuator or solenoid- those arent terribly expensive to fix- but a bad transfer case is expensive. either way id recommend putting it in the shop if you need 4wd

Is it pushbutton?  It could be a bad switch.

SOURCE: shift into four wheel drive and nothing happens

Check for a vacuum leak under the hood. The four wheel drive front hubs are accuated by vacuum.

Won;t shift to four wheel drive the light on the dash blinks

When this happens I would think you have an issue with your 4 wheel Drive that needs servicing. Most of the time it's the selector switch($400),See if a National Chain( transmission )has free or low cost evaluations.Good Luck.

Four wheel drive does not engage when button on four wheel drive shifter is depressed. usually a green diagram illuminates on the dash to let you know four wheel drive is engaged. nothing happens now any...

Sounds like a n electrical shift actuator is at fault. It would be located on the transfer ccase. Make sure the fuse isn't blown and the wiring is connected at the case.

Four wheel drive locking up in tight turn. loud clicking from front

Hopefully the CV joints have not been damaged, What you are experiencing is called torque bind, it happens when you drive on dry pavement in four wheel drive. Unless you have an all wheel drive system that has a way of allowing the front and rear wheels to slip or turn at different speeds, a standard four wheel drive system will destroy itself if it is used on a non slippery surface. Never drive on good traction surface unless you have selected 2WD, 4WD is only for snow, ice and gravel
